Hello!

Here are some rules to determine the number of significant figures.

 1. Numbers that are not zero are significant (45 - all are sigfigs)
 2. Zeros between non-zero digits are significant (3006 → all are sigfigs)
 3. Trailing zeros are not significant (0.067 → the first two zeros are not sigfigs)
 4. Trailing zeros after a decimal point are always significant (1.000 → all are sigfigs)
 5. Trailing zeros in a whole number are not significant (7800 → the last two zeros are not sigfigs)
 6. In scientific notation, the exponential digits are not significant, known as place holders (6.02 x 10² → 10² is not a sigfig)

Now, let's find the number of significant figures in each given number.

A). 296.54

Since these digits are all non-zero, there are 5 significant figures.

B). 5003.1

Since the two zeros are between non-zero digits, they are significant figures. Thus, there are 5 significant figures.

C). 360.01

Again, the two zeros are between non-zero digits. There are 5 significant figures.

D). 18.3

All of these digits are non-zero, hence, there are 3 significant figures.

Therefore, expression D has the fewest number of significant figures being 3.

-2(2x-6)=8-(-5+3x)
how do you solve this ?
Serggg [28]

Answer:

x = -1

Step-by-step explanation:

first you "remove the parentheses" by multiplying the number on the outside of them to everything on the inside. for instance, -2 x 2x = -4x and -2 x -6 = 12 (because whenever you multiply two negatives, it turns into a positive) then, when there is a minus sign in front of parentheses, you change the sign of everything within the parenthesis leaving you with a positive 5 and a negative 3x. so now you have a much simpler equation of -4x + 12 = 8 +5 -3x

next you want to of course add the 5 and the 8 to make it even more simple which would leave you with the equation:

-4x + 12 = 13 - 3x

The next thing you need to do is get the unknown variable on one side of the equation. So you do add 4x do get the x on the right side which would leave you with 12 = 13 - 3x + 4x

So now you can do the same thing to the 13 to try to get it on the left by subtracting 13 from both sides

12 - 13 = -3x + 4x

now you make the equation simple by "combining the like terms" (which is something you'll hear a lot in algebra class)

making you equation -1 = 1x

or just -1 = x because when you multiply something by 1, it's the same.

In a survey of a group of men, the heights in the 20-29 age group were normally distributed, with a mean of 67 inches and a s
liq [111]

Answer:

a) 20.33% probability that the participant is less than 64.5 inches.

b) 33.72% probability that the participant is more than 68.25 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Problems of normally distributed samples are solved using the z-score formula.

In a set with mean \mu and standard deviation \sigma, the zscore of a measure X is given by:

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

The Z-score measures how many standard deviations the measure is from the mean. After finding the Z-score, we look at the z-score table and find the p-value associated with this z-score. This p-value is the probability that the value of the measure is smaller than X, that is, the percentile of X. Subtracting 1 by the pvalue, we get the probability that the value of the measure is greater than X.

In this problem, we have that:

\mu = 67, \sigma = 3

a.) Find the probability that the participant is less than 64.5 inches?

This is the pvalue of Z when X = 64.5.

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

Z = \frac{64.5 - 67}{3}

Z = -0.83

Z = -0.83 has a pvalue of 0.2033

20.33% probability that the participant is less than 64.5 inches.

b.) Find the probability that the participant is more than 68.25 inches?

This is 1 subtracted by the pvalue of Z when X = 68.25.

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

Z = \frac{68.25 - 67}{3}

Z = 0.42

Z = 0.42 has a pvalue of 0.6628

1 - 0.6628 = 0.3372

33.72% probability that the participant is more than 68.25 inches
