Total number of ways to make a pair:

The first player can be any one of 7 .  For each of those . . .
The opponent can be any one of the remaining 6 .

Total ways to make a pair  =  7 x 6 = 42 ways .

BUT ... every pair can be made in two ways ...  A vs B  or  B vs A .
So 42 'ways' make only (42/2) = 21 different pairs.

If every pair plays 2 matches, then  (21 x 2) = <em><u>42 total matches</u></em> will be played.

Now, is that an elegant solution or what !

Evaluate the following expression when x = 6 and y = 2:
Liula [17]

Answer:

11/2

Step-by-step explanation:

\frac{ {x}^{2} +  {y}^{3}  }{2 + x}  \\

when,

x = 6 \\ y = 2

Now substitute the value we get,

\frac{ {6}^{2}  +  {2}^{3} }{2 + 6} \\  \\  =  \frac{36 + 8}{8}   \\  \\  =  \frac{44}{8} \\  \\  =  \frac{11}{2}

What is the value of x if a rectangle has a perimeter of 50, a length of x + 5, and width of 11?
Iteru [2.4K]

The perimeter of a polygon is the sum of the lengths of all its sides. A rectangle has 4 sides, and opposite sides are congruent, so 2 sides have length x + 5, and 2 sides have length 11. Add all the lengths and set the sum equal to 50. Then solve the equation for x.

x + 5 + x + 5 + 11 + 11 = 50

2x + 32 = 50

2x = 18

x = 9

Answer: x = 9

kogti [31]

Hey there,

In order to solve this equation we are going to subtract 2/3 by 3/4.

To add or subtract fractions we need to make sure that they have a common denominator:

  • 2/3 and 3/4 (common denominator would be 12) so 8/12 and 9/12

Now that the denominators are the same we can subtract the two fractions:

  • 9/12 - 8/12 would equal to 1/12

That means that 1/12th of the wall still needs to be done.

Therefore 8/12 of the wall had been painted green at the end of Tuesday.

Hope I helped,

Amna
