The sun as a blackbody:

Chemistry
1 answer:
Serggg [28]4 years ago
6 0

Explanation:

(a) Using Wien's displacement law which states that the temperature and the wavelength of the blackbody radiation are inversely proportional.

So,

λmax= b/T

Where,

λmax is the peak of wavelength

b is the Wien's displacement constant having value as 2.9\times 10^{-3}\  m K

T is the Absolute Temperature in Kelvins = 6000 K

So,

λmax= b/T  = \frac{2.9\times 10^{-3}}{6000} = 4.8333 × 10⁻⁷ m

It lies in the visible region.

(b) Using Wien's displacement law:

λmax= b/T

So,

λmax= b/T  = \frac{2.9\times 10^{-3}}{298} = 9.73154 × 10⁻⁶ m

This wavelength corresponds to infrared region.

(c) The expression for power per unit area by using Stefan–Boltzmann law is:

Power per unit area = εσT⁴

Where, ε = 1 for blackbody

σ is Stefan–Boltzmann constant, having value as 5.67\times 10^{-8}\ W/m^2K^4

Thus,

P = 5.67\times 10^{-8}\times 6000\ W/m^2=0.0003402\ W/m^2

Generally, which of the three families of elements (metals, nonmetals, or inert gases) has the least tendency to form ionic bond
Sergio [31]

Answer:

Inert gases

Explanation:

Inert elements have a stable electron configuration meaning their shells/orbitals are full with their requisite number of electrons. Therefore, gaining or losing an electron would take high ionization energy. Therefore they are less likely to be involved in chemical reaction unless a high amount of energy is used. An example of an inert gas is Helium.

Quincy wants to see a real example of rock weathering. Where would be the best place for him to go? A. up on the roof of his hou
zhannawk [14.2K]

Answer:

Option (D)

Explanation:

Weathering is usually defined as the disintegration of rocks at the surface of the earth. This break down of rocks is mainly caused by the geological processes that occur on the earth's surface. This process results in the formation of sediments that are transported and deposited in a new environment.

This weathering process primarily takes place in three different ways such as-

  • Physical weathering- Here, the rocks are broken down by the physical agents such as wind, water, ice.
  • Chemical weathering- Here the rocks are broken down when interacts with the chemical containing water.
  • Biological weathering- here, the rocks are broken down due to the activities done by organisms such as plants and animals.

In the given condition, Quincy can see a real example of rock weathering in the high mountainous region, as in the mountainous region the rocks are frequently weathered and eroded by the agents such as wind, water, and ice.

Thus, the correct answer is option (D).
