A 12.5μF capacitor is connected to a power supply that keeps a constant potential difference of 24.0 V across the plates. A piec

e of material having a dielectric constant of 3.75 is placed between the plates, completely filling the space between them.
a.) How much energy is stored in the capacitor before the dielectric is inserted?
b.) How much energy is stored in the capacitor after the dielectric is inserted?
c.) By how much did the energy change during the insertion? Did it increase or decrease?
d.) Explain why inserting the dielectric (or equivalently exchanging air with the material) causes a change in the stored energy of the capacitor.

Can you guys help to understand this graph I'm so confused why I getting wrong?
dedylja [7]
The one fact that needs to be mentioned but isn't given anywhere on or around the graph is: The distance, on the vertical axis, is the distance FROM home. So any point on the graph where the distance is zero ... the point is in the x-axis ... is a point AT home.

Segment D ...
Walking AWAY from home; distance increases as time increases.

Segment B ...
Not walking; distance doesn't change as time increases.

Segment C ...
Walking away from home, but slower than before; distance increases as time increases, but not as fast. Slope is less than segment-D.

Segment A ...
Going home; distance is DEcreasing as time increases. Walking pretty fast ... the slope of the line is steep.

Why is it important to develop alternative energy sources
Aliun [14]

Answer:

The alternative energy sources are defined as those resources that are used in place of the natural and non-renewable resources. This resources plays an important role in the conservation of natural resources.

The fossil fuels are the resources on which the people are directly dependent. Burning up of these fossils leads to the emission of carbon, which has a direct impact on earth. A small increase in the amount of carbon dioxide can lead to the increase in the surface temperature of earth.

In addition to this, these fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, oil and natural gases are found to be present in a limited proportion, and it is a very expensive process to obtain these resources, so sustainable development method must be adopted in order to save this natural resources for the future generation.

Some of the examples of alternative resources that are widely used in place of fossil fuels are wind energy, solar energy, tidal energy, biomass energy and bio-fuels.

Thus, it is very important to develop and use alternative resources.

The diagram shows a wave moving from one medium to another
Shtirlitz [24]

As the speed of wave decreases, the wavelength of the wave decreases.

Refraction

We know that as a wave travels from one medium to another its speed decreases depending on if the first medium is less dense than the second medium or increases depending on if the first medium is more dense than the second medium. This is known as refraction

Now, we know that the speed of a wave v = fλ where

 • f = frequency and
 • λ = wavelength. Since f is constant, v ∝ λ.

The ratio of the speed in medium one to speed in medium two is called the refractive index of medium 1 to 2.

Explaining the diagram

From the diagram, we see that the wavelength in medium 1 is longer than that in medium 2. Since wavelength and speed are proportional, so the speed in medium 1 is also greater than the speed in medium 2.

So, As the speed of wave decreases, the wavelength of the wave decreases.
