What is the result of subtracting the second equation from the first x-3y=6 and -8x-y=6
oksano4ka [1.4K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Rearrange the equation by subtracting what is to the right of the equal sign from both sides of the equation :

                    x-3*y-(6)=0

Step by step solution :

Step  1  :

Equation of a Straight Line

1.1     Solve   x-3y-6  = 0

"y=mx+b" is the formula of a straight line drawn on Cartesian coordinate system in which "y" is the vertical axis and "x" the horizontal axis.

In this formula :

y tells us how far up the line goes

x tells us how far along

m is the Slope or Gradient i.e. how steep the line is

b is the Y-intercept i.e. where the line crosses the Y axis

The X and Y intercepts and the Slope are called the line properties. We shall now graph the line  x-3y-6  = 0 and calculate its properties

Graph of a Straight Line :

Calculate the Y-Intercept :

Notice that when x = 0 the value of y is 2/-1 so this line "cuts" the y axis at y=-2.00000

 y-intercept = 6/-3 = 2/-1  = -2.00000

Calculate the X-Intercept :

When y = 0 the value of x is 6/1 Our line therefore "cuts" the x axis at x= 6.00000

 x-intercept = 6/1  =  6.00000

Calculate the Slope :

Slope is defined as the change in y divided by the change in x. We note that for x=0, the value of y is -2.000 and for x=2.000, the value of y is -1.333. So, for a change of 2.000 in x (The change in x is sometimes referred to as "RUN") we get a change of -1.333 - (-2.000) = 0.667 in y. (The change in y is sometimes referred to as "RISE" and the Slope is m = RISE

If you ride your bike at an average speed of 15 mph, how long will it take you to ride to your grandparents’ home? Express your
saveliy_v [14]

Answer:

It will take you 0.24 hour to ride to your grandparents’ home

It will take you 14 minutes to ride to your grandparents’ home

Step-by-step explanation:

- Your average speed is 15 miles per hour

- The distance to grandmother home is 3.67 miles

- You need to know how long it will take you to do that

∵ Distance = speed × time

∵ Distance = 3.67 miles

∵ Speed = 15 miles per hour

- Substitute these values in the rule above

∴ 3.67 = 15 × time

- Divide both sides by 15 to find the time

∴ Time = 0.24 hour

* It will take you 0.24 hour to ride to your grandparents’ home

- You need to convert the time from hour to minutes

∵ 1 hour = 60 minutes

∵ Time = 0.24 hour

∴ Time = 0.24 × 60 = 14.4

∴ Time ≅ 14 minutes

* It will take you 14 minutes to ride to your grandparents’ home

Tara received 28 out of 35 points on her last math test. What percentage score did the teacher record in her grade book for Tara
ZanzabumX [31]

Answer:

80%

Step-by-step explanation:

28/35 = 0.8

Divide. Convert a decimal to a percent by multiplying times 100.

0.8 × 100 = 80

Tara earned an 80%

You could use a calculator as described above or using mental math or pencil and paper:

28/35 = 4/5

Simplify.

4/5 = 8/10 = 80/100

Percent means per hundred, change 28/35 to hundredths as above.

Tara (still) gets an 80%.

Find m∠U.<br> Write your answer as an integer or as a decimal rounded to the nearest tenth.
AleksAgata [21]

Answer:

50.2

Step-by-step explanation:

ut =  \sqrt{ {6}^{2}  +  {5}^{2} }   \\  \sqrt{36 + 25}  \\  \sqrt{61 }  \\ using \: cosine \: rule \\ cos \: u =  \frac{ {5}^{2} + 61 - 36 }{2 \times 5 \times  \sqrt{61} }  \\  \\  =  \frac{25 + 61 - 36}{78}  \\  \\  = \frac{50}{78 }  \\  \cos \: u = 0.64 \\ m \:u = 50.2
