Answer:

Vf = 1.41 m/s

Explanation:

The velocity of the disc just before the friend catches it, can be found out by using 3rd equation of motion, as follows:

2gh = Vf² + Vi²

where,

g = - 9.8 m/s² (negative sign for upward motion)

h = height = 5 m

Vi = Initial Velocity = 10 m/s

Vf = Final Velocity = ?

Therefore,

2(-9.8 m/s²)(5 m) = Vf² - (10 m/s)²

Vf² = 100 m²/s² - 98 m²/s²

Vf = √(2 m²/s²)

<u>Vf = 1.41 m/s</u>

A student throws a 0.22 kg rock horizontally at 20.0 m/s from 10.0 m above the ground. Find the initial kinetic energy of the ro
LekaFEV [45]

Answer:

44J

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Mass of rock  = 0.22kg

Initial velocity  = 20m/s

Distance moved  = 10m

Unknown:

Initial kinetic energy of the rock  = ?

Solution:

To solve this problem, we need to understand that kinetic energy is the energy due to the motion of a body.

It is mathematically expressed as;

     Kinetic energy  = \frac{1}{2} m v²

m is the mass

v is the velocity

   Kinetic energy  =  \frac{1}{2} x 0.22 x 20²   = 44J

The length of a wooden rod is 25.5 cm. What is this length in:<br>(a) millimetres?<br>(b) metres?
larisa86 [58]

Answer:

(a)255mm \\ (b)0.255m

Explanation:

(a)1cm = 10mm \\ 25.5cm = x

Cross multiply

1x = 25.5 \times 10 \\ x = 255mm

(b)100cm = 1m \\ 25.5cm = x

cross multiply

100x = 25.5 \\  \frac{100x}{100}  =  \frac{25.5}{100}  \\ x = 0.255m

hope this helps
