The amount of nitrogen in an organic substance can be determined by an analytical method called the Kjeldahl method, in which al

l the nitrogen in the organic substance is converted to ammonia. The ammonia, which is a weak base, can be neutralized with hydrochloric acid, as described by the equation NH 3 ( aq ) + HCl ( aq ) ⟶ NH 4 Cl ( aq ) If 21.0 mL of 0.150 M HCl ( aq ) is needed to neutralize all the NH 3 ( g ) from a 2.25 g sample of organic material, calculate the mass percentage of nitrogen in the sample.

Answer:

The mass percentage of nitrogen in the sample is 1.96%.

Explanation:

Moles (n)=Molarity(M)\times Volume (L)

21.0 mL of 0.150 M HCl

Moles of hydrogen chloride = n

Volume of hydrogen chloride solution = 21.0 mL = 0.021 L

Molarity of the hydrogen chloride = 0.150 M

n=0.150 M\times 0.021 L=0.00315 mol

NH_3 (aq) + HCl(aq)\rightarrow NH_4Cl ( aq )

According to recation, 1 mole of HCl neutralizes 1 mole ammonia.Then 0.00315 moles of HCl will neutrtalize:

\frac{1}{1}\times 0.00315 mol=0.00315 mol of ammonia

1 mole of ammonia has 1 mole of nitrogen atom . Then 0.00315 moles of ammonia will have = 1 × 0.00315 mol = 0.00135 mol

Mass of 0.00315 moles of nitrogen= 0.00315 mol × 14 g/mol = 0.0441 g

Mass of the sample = 2.25 g

The mass percentage of nitrogen in the sample:

\%=\frac{0.0441 g}{2.25 g}\times 100=1.96\%

30 its ASAP!!!! What is the volume, in liters, occupied by 0.485 moles of Oxygen gas at 23.0 oC and 0.980 atm?
USPshnik [31]
Use the universal gas formula

PV=nRT
where
P=pressure ( 0.980 atm)
V=volume (L)
T=temperature ( 23 ° C = 23+273.15 = 296.15 ° K)
n=number of moles of ideal gas (0.485 mol)
R=universal gas constant = <span>0.08205 L atm / (mol·K)

Substitute values,
Volume, V (in litres)
=nRT/P
=0.485*0.08205*296.15/0.980
= 12.0256 L
= 12.0 L (to three significant figures)

Which theory describes the motion of and force driving earth’s plates?
swat32

The theory that describes the motion and force driving earth's plates is Plate tectonics

Explanation:

Plate tectonics states that the outer shell of the Earth is divided into plates that glide and move over the mantle which is the surface of the earth.

The mantle is the rocky inner layer above the core of the Earth.

Plate tectonics helped the geologists to explain how continents could move around the planet.

There are 9 major plate tectonics , namely North American, Pacific, Eurasian, Australian, African, Indo - Australian,Indian South American and Antarctic. These plates have been named after the land form found on them.

Write a balanced equation for the reaction of Na₂S and CdSO₄. Express your answer as a chemical equation. Identify all of the ph
Luba_88 [7]

Explanation:

A chemical reaction equation that contains same number of atoms on both reactant and product side is known as a balanced chemical reaction equation.

For example, Na_{2}S(aq) + CdSO_{4}(aq) \rightarrow Na_{2}SO_{4}(aq) + CdS(s)

Here, number of reactant molecules are as follows.

Na = 2

S = 2

Cd = 1

O = 4

Number of product molecules are as follows.

Na = 2

S = 2

Cd = 1

O = 4

As there are already equal number of atoms on both reactant and product side. Hence, the reaction equation is balanced.

Also, in this reaction both Na_{2}S and CdSO_{4} are present as aqueous solution. And, CdS is the precipitate that is formed as it is the insoluble solid that forms.

Na_{2}SO_{4} is present in aqueous state.

KATRIN_1 [288]

Answer:

It is important for scientists to form a consensus on scientific issues because scientific consensus tells us things that we have already learned.
