x = original price, or 100%

we know then that it original costs "x", which is the 100%, however is discounted by 40%, so the discounted price is really then 100% - 40% = 60%, and we know that that 60% is $12.

if 60% of the original price is $12, what is "x", the 100%?

\bf \begin{array}{ccll} amount&\%\\ \cline{1-2} x&100\\ 12&60 \end{array}\implies \cfrac{x}{12}=\cfrac{100}{60}\implies \cfrac{x}{12}=\cfrac{5}{3}\implies 3x=60 \\\\\\ x=\cfrac{60}{3}\implies x=20 ~\hfill \stackrel{\textit{amount of the discount}}{20-12\implies 8}\\ ~\hspace{34em}

16, 4,1,...<br> Find the 6th term
Vlada [557]

Let's see what to do...

_________________________________

Step (1)

Look : 16 , 10 , 4 , ...

It is an arithmetic sequence.

So first we have to find the value of the ratio(( d )) .

To do this, we need to subtract each sentence minus the previous sentence.

So we have : 10 - 16 = - 6

_________________________________

Step (2)

To find the nth sentence in an arithmetic sequence, we must use the following equation :

t(n) = t(1) + (n - 1)d

_________________________________

Step (3)

To find the 6th term just need to put the following parameters in the above sequence.

t(1) = 16 ------ n = 6 ------ d = -6

t(6) = 16 + (6 - 1)( - 6)

t(6) = 16 + (5)( - 6)

t(6) = 16 + ( - 30)

t(6) = 16 - 30

t(6) =  - 14

And we're done.

Thanks for watching buddy good luck.
