The oxidation number that is given to chlorine in a chemical combination indicates how many electrons are gained or lost because it is a neutral compound, perchloric acid has a total charge of 0. Hydrogen has an oxidation number of +1,whereas oxygen has an oxidation number of -2. So for the total charge to be 0, 1 hydrogen + 4 oxygen of negative charge added together must equal 0, which will make the oxidation number of chlorine, solving this algebraically +7.

A 283.3-g sample of X2(g) has a volume of 30 L at 3.2 atm and 27 'C. What is element X?
professor190 [17]

we find the number of moles with the formula

pV=nRT

27C=300k

3.2*30=n*0.082*300

n=96/24.6=3.9 moles

we have the mass ant the number of moles so we can calculate the molar mass

283.3/3.9=72.64g/moles

that means X's mass is 72.64/2=36.3 so the element is Kr(Kriptonium)

One molecule is made of two or more _____ bonded together.
gayaneshka [121]

Answer:

              One molecule is made of two or more atoms bonded together.

Explanation:

                    Molecule is a substance which is made up chemically by two or more same or different atoms. The atoms joint together in a molecule due to a chemical bond. This chemical bond is formed either by mutual sharing of electrons or transfer of electrons between two atoms.

Examples:

A molecule of H₂O (water) is made up of two atoms of Hydrogen and one atom of Oxygen (H-O-H).

A molecule of CO₂ (Carbon Dioxide) is formed when a carbon atom is bonded to two oxygen atoms via a double bonds (O=C=O).

A molecule of N₂ (Nitrogen Gas) is formed between two nitrogen atoms through a triple bond (N≡N).

What are the half-reactions for a galvanic cell with aluminum and gold
electrodes?
lawyer [7]

Answer:

A

Explanation:

In a galvanic cell, energy is produced by spontaneous chemical processes.

The cathode and anode of this cell will depend on the relative position of the two metals in the electrochemical series.

Aluminium is higher in the electrochemical series so aluminium will be the anode. Silver is lower in the electrochemical series so silver will be the cathode.

Recall that oxidation (electron loss) occurs at the anode while reduction (electron gain) occurs at the cathode.

Decide whether a chemical reaction happens in either of the following situations. If a reaction does happen, write the chemical
iragen [17]

Answer: The chemical equations are given below.

Explanation:

A balanced chemical reaction follows law of conservation of mass.

This law states that mass can neither be created nor be destroyed but it can only be transformed from one form to another form. This also means that total number of individual atoms on reactant side must be equal to the total number of individual atoms on the product side.

Single displacement reaction is defined as the reaction in which more reactive metal displaces a less reactive metal from its chemical reaction.

General equation representing single displacement reaction follows:

AB+C\rightarrow CB+A

C is more reactive element than element A.

The reactivity of metals is judged by the series known as reactivity series. Elements lying above in the series are more reactive than the elements lying below in the series.

  • 1. When solid lead metal is put in the beaker of 0.043 M Fe(NO_3)_2 solution.

Lead lies below in the reactivity series than iron. Thus, it will not replace iron from its chemical reaction.

Pb(s)+Fe(NO_3)_2(aq.)\rightarrow \text{No reaction}

  • 2. When solid iron metal is put in the beaker of 0.044 M Pb(NO_3)_2 solution.

Iron lies above in the reactivity series than lead. Thus, it will easily replace lead from its chemical reaction.

Fe(s)+Pb(NO_3)_2(aq.)\rightarrow Fe(NO_3)_2(aq.)+Pb(s)

Hence, the chemical equations are given above.
