Sid and Jill hiked 4 1/8 miles in the morning and 1 7/8 miles in the afternoon. How many times as far did they hike in the morning as in the afternoon? Am I suppose to get a whole number?

In order to find the answer, divide distance in afternoon from in the morning.
It would be: = 4 1/8 / 1 / 7/8
= 33/8 / 15/8

We can re-write it as:
33/8 * 8/15
 = 33/15

In short, Your Answer would be 33/15 or 2.2 times

Convert the mixed number into fractions. So the two fractions will be 33/8 and 15/8
You should now divide the afternoon hike by the morning hike. 
33/8 divided by 15/8
You can covert the division into multiplication by reversing the second fraction.
So, it is now, 33/8 * 8/15
Simplify it and you will get 33/15 which is also equal to 2.2
Sid and Jill hiked 2.2 times more in the morning that in the afternoon.
