I think it should be required. Since it can help encourage a healthy life style, it can help prevent you from getting as sick (since physical activity can help increase your immune system, and help reduce the risk of certain diseases like heart diseases.

However with health class I think it should be elective. Since not everyone will need to know about health, like if you become an engineer health class will not help with that.
