A boat is heading due north across a river with a speed of 12.0 km/h relative to the water. The water in the river has a uniform

velocity of 6.00 km/h due east relative to the ground. Determine the velocity of the boat relative to an observer standing on either bank.

<h2>The velocity of the boat relative to an observer standing on either bank = u = 18 \frac{km}{hr}</h2>

Explanation:

Let speed of the boat in still water = u \frac{km}{hr}

speed of the river water = v \frac{km}{hr}

Relative speed of the boat in the water against the river flow is given by

Upstream speed = u - v ------- (1)

⇒ u - v = 12 \frac{km}{hr} ------ (2)

Given that speed of the water = 6 \frac{km}{hr}

Now velocity of the boat is given From equation (2)

⇒ u = 12 + v

Put the value of v = 6 , we get

⇒ u = 12 + 6

⇒ u =  18 \frac{km}{hr}

therefore , the velocity of the boat relative to an observer standing on either bank = u = 18 \frac{km}{hr}

Why is radiation fog more likely near the center of an anticyclone than near the center of a cyclone?
Zigmanuir [339]
Radiation fog is the fog that is formed when the heat absorbed the Earth's surface is released into the atmosphere producing fog. This only occurs when the air is clear and calm. In the center of an anticyclone, the conditions of the air are clear and calm which is favorable for the formation of radiation fog. The center of cyclones, on the other hand, is turbulent and cloudy which prevents the formation of radiation fogs.

When an average force F is exerted over a certain distance on a shopping cart of mass m, its kinetic energy increases by 12mv2.
VMariaS [17]

Answer:

A)d=\dfrac{1}{2F}mv^2

B)\Delta KE'=2\times \dfrac{1}{2}mv^2

Explanation:

Given that

Force  = F

Increase in Kinetic energy = \dfrac{1}{2}mv^2

\Delta KE=\dfrac{1}{2}mv^2

we know that

Work done by all the forces =change in the kinetic energy

a)

Lets distance = d

We know work done by force F

W= F .d

F.d=ΔKE

F.d=\dfrac{1}{2}mv^2

d=\dfrac{1}{2F}mv^2

b)

If the force become twice

F' = 2 F

F'.d=ΔKE'

2 F .d = ΔKE'                          ( F.d =Δ KE)

2ΔKE = ΔKE'

\Delta KE'=2\times \dfrac{1}{2}mv^2

Therefore the final kinetic energy will become the twice if the force become twice.

A force parallel to the x-axis acts on a particle moving along the x-axis. This force produces potential energy U(x) given by U(
noname [10]

Answer:

Explanation:

U(x)=αx⁴

Force F = - dU / dx

= 4αx³

= 4 x .75 x³

= 3 x³

Force when x = .8 m

F =  3 (0.8)³

= 1.54 N

64 g of sulfur dioxide (SO2) contains 32 g of oxygen. Calculate how much sulfur it contains.
Ghella [55]
In sulfur dioxide, there are 2 oxygen atoms and 1 sulfur atom. As there are 32g of sulfur and 32g of oxygen, that would mean that each oxygen atom would weigh about 16g. Given that, the mass of a single sulfur atom is twice that of a single oxygen atom.
