Nitrogen eutrophication is a process of algae multiplication, common in water bodies without such movement, as lakes and dams. Although it means a large amount of organic matter present in water, it can bring several harms to man and nature itself. These problems include hypoxia (lack of sufficient oxygen in living tissues to maintain bodily functions), or low oxygen levels in the environment.

Nitrogen eutrophication occurs with the wide availability of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) in the water of lakes, dams or lagoons providing an environment that is fully conducive to the large and rapid multiplication of algae. When the level of eutrophication increases from time to time (at large time intervals), it is considered a natural process. But when eutrophication occurs in a short period of time, scientists consider it to be an anthropic cause, that is, caused by human influence.
