Ever since he was a child and was teased about being slightly overweight, Chester has had a severe obsession with his waistline.

He is now 34 years of age, is slim and healthy, and works out constantly. Despite the fact that he has a perfectly flat stomach with "washboard abs," he still perceives himself as having a pot belly. He is very anxious about this perception, and finds it to be intrusive in his life. Chester may be suffering from ________ disorder.

Answer: The answer is Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD)

Explanation: Body dysmorphic disorder is a distinct mental illness involving obsessive focus on a perceived flaw in appearance and therefore warrants exceptional measures to hide or fix one's dysmorphic part on one's figure. Besides thinking about it, one repetitively checks and compares the perceived flaw, and can adopt unusual routines to avoid social contact that exposes it. People with this disorder have an intrusive thought, compulsive behaviour, or depression.

Chester developed BDD as a result of childhood abuse of being teased slightly overweight and this lead to compulsive behaviour of working out constantly in order to be slimmer and frequently feels he has a pot belly despite being in perfect body shape.
