One fifth is the same as \frac{1}{5} and 15 is the same as \frac{15}{1}

So just times across, \frac{1}{5} × \frac{15}{1}
Resulting in(1 x 15= 15, and 5 x 1= 5), \frac{15}{5}

If you need/want to reduce it, divide both numbers by 5. Leaving you with the simplified answer of \frac{3}{1} or 3. Either answer works. :)

If you travel 40 miles east and then turn around and drive 12 miles west, the displacement is?
makvit [3.9K]
The answer is 28 miles.

Displacement is not the same as distance. Total distance would be the sum of two distances: 40 + 12 = 52 miles.
However, displacement is the shortest distance from the initial and final position. Take a look at the attached image. Displacement is the difference of two distances:
D = 40 - 12 = 28 miles

A soccer field is 100 Meyers wide and 230 meters long the coach asks players to run from one corner to the other corner diagonal
Kruka [31]

Hey!

Well a soccer field would be a rectangle and if cut across you will be presented with two right triangles. So since you are presented with right triangles you will need to know at least two sides to determine the third. The formula used for right triangles is...

a² + b² = c²

Now a and b are the "legs" of the triangle meaning the two sides that come together to make a 90° angle. The c in the equation would be the hypotenuse  of the triangle, otherwise the longest side or in this case the diagonal part. Now to find that distance you will have to plug in and solve...

100² + 230² = c²

10000 + 52900 = c²

62900 = c²

about 250.8 meters

Hope this Helped!
