  x -2y = 2
3x +y = 6  multiplie both sides by 2 => 6x +2y = 12

  x -2y = 2
6x +2y = 12
------------------- assum the same terms
7x  0  = 14

x = 14/7

x = 2

50% of what number is 31
Ivenika [448]

To find 50% or half, of 31, you can just add 31 + 31.

Or, 31 x 2.

Or even the longer way, we know 3 + 3 = 6. So we can just add 0's: 30 + 30 = 60. That leaves us with the 1's. 1 + 1 = 2.

Take our 60 from earlier, and add 2. 60 + 2 = 62.

Check your answer. 62/2 = 31.

Your answer is 62

A dressmaker needs to cut 9-inch pieces of ribbon from rolls of ribbon that are 3 feet in length. How many 9-inch pieces can the
Inga [223]

Answer: 20

Step-by-step explanation:

First and foremost, we should know that: 12 inches = 1 foot. Therefore converting 3 feet to inches will be:

= 3 × 12 = 36 inches.

Therefore, if a dressmaker needs to cut 9-inch pieces of ribbon from rolls of ribbon that are 3 feet in length. The number of pieces will be:

= 3 feet / 9 inch

= 36 inches / 9 inches

= 4 pieces

Then, the number of 9-inch pieces that the dressmaker can cut from 5 of these rolls of ribbon will be:

= 4 × 5

= 20 pieces

A parabola can be drawn given a focus of (4, -3) and a directrix of y=5 Write the equation of the parabola in any form.
Serggg [28]

Answer:

The equation of the parabola is (x - 4)² = -16(y - 1)

Step-by-step explanation:

The standard form of the equation of the parabola is (x - h)² = 4p(y - k), where

  • The vertex of the parabola is (h, k)
  • The focus is (h, k + p)
  • The directrix is at y = k - p

∵ The focus of the parabola is (4, -3)

∵ The focus is (h, k + p)

∴ h = 4

∴ k + p = -3 ⇒ (1)

∵ It has a directrix of y = 5

∵ The directrix of the parabola is y = k - p

∴ k - p = 5 ⇒ (2)

→ Add equations (1) and (2) to find k and p

∵ (k + k) + (p - p) = (-3 + 5)

∴ 2k + 0 = 2

∴ 2k = 2

→ Divide both sides by 2

∴ k = 1

→ Substitute the value of k in equation (1)

∵ 1 + p = -3

→ Subtract 1 from both sides

∴ 1 - 1 + p = -3 - 1

∴ p = -4

∵ The form of the equation of the parabola is (x - h)² = 4p(y - k)

→ Substitute the values of h, k, p in it

∴ (x - 4)² = 4(-4)(y - 1)

∴ (x - 4)² = -16(y - 1)

∴ The equation of the parabola is (x - 4)² = -16(y - 1)
