The answer is oxygen. When someone smokes, the toxic nature of the chemicals in cigarettes damage the lung tissue inside the lungs. When the lungs are damaged, they cannot function at full capacity and deliver the correct amount of oxygen throughout your body. The longer someone smokes, the more damage that is done and the less oxygen your body is getting.
