Answer:

2C₆H₁₄ + 19O₂ → 12CO₂ + 14H₂O

α =2

β = 19

γ = 12

δ = 14

53.2moles of O₂

Explanation:

Proper equation of the reaction:

                    αC₆H₁₄ + βO₂ → γCO₂ + δH₂O

This is a combustion reaction for a hydrocarbon. For the combustion of a hydrocarbon, the combustion equation is given below:

         CₓHₙ + (x + \frac{n}{4})O₂ → xCO₂ + \frac{n}{2}H₂O

From the given combustion equation, x = 6 and n = 14

Therefore:

β = x + \frac{n}{4} = 6 + \frac{14}{4} = 6 + 3.5 = 9\frac{1}{2}

γ = 6

δ = \frac{n}{2} = \frac{14}{2} = 7

The complete reaction equation is therefore given as:

                   C₆H₁₄ + 9\frac{1}{2}O₂ → 6CO₂ + 7H₂O

To express as whole number integers, we multiply the coefficients through by 2:

                  2C₆H₁₄ + 19O₂ → 12CO₂ + 14H₂O

Problem 2

           From the reaction:

2 moles of hexane are required to completely react with 19 moles of O₂

∴ 5.6 moles of hexane would react with k moles of O₂

This gives:     5.6 x 19 = 2k

                        k = \frac{5.6 x 19}{2}

                        k = 53.2moles of O₂

When the [H+] in a solution is 1.7 × 10−9 M, what is the pOH
Harrizon [31]
The pOH of a solution is related to the concentration of hydroxide ions in a solution. Also, it is related to the pH of the solution since the sum of pOH and pH is equal to 14. We can use this relation to solve this problem. We do as follows:

pH = -log[<span>1.7 × 10−9 M</span>] = 8.8
pOH + pH = 14
pOH + 8.8 = 14
pOH = 5.2

In this simulation, ___________________ will be used to stimulate the axon.
inysia [295]
Voltage is known to be used as a requirement for stimulating an axon. The axon conducts electrical signals away from the nerve cell. The main function of the axons is that it is specifically used to transmit information, in a form of electrical impulse, to the other parts of the body.

Explain how the scientific method helps scientists.
Lapatulllka [165]

As scientists work hard for the results, they may get biased and may sometimes come up with an answer that is based on that. In order to avoid such circumstances, scientific method is put into practice.

Explanation:

  • Personal preferences can some times affect a scientific answer. That is not desirable as the experiments will be repeated by different individuals and the same results should be obtained.
  • That leads to the importance of documentation of systemic observation, formation of hypothesis and the experimentation to confirm the results, which is the scientific way of coming up with the answer to a scientific problem.
  • Scientific methods thus helps in bringing more credibility to findings of the scientists and can be repeated by others to obtain the same results.
