Crazy boy [7]

Answer:

The factors which remained constant are as follows -

  1. material used as the membrane
  2. amount of substances used
  3. number of trials

The factors which have shown variation are as follows -

  1. molecule size (large starch molecules vs. small glucose molecules)
  2. whether the molecules diffused through the membrane (tubing)

Explanation

Some factors with in the experiments remained constant from the point of starting of the experiment to its end. While some factors were varied to study its impact on the experiment rate of progression or on the final product formed. Thus , out of the following given factors, the ones that remained constant are -

  1. material used as the membrane
  2. amount of substances used
  3. number of trials

The factors which have shown variation are as follows -

  1. molecule size (large starch molecules vs. small glucose molecules)
  2. whether the molecules diffused through the membrane (tubing)

Which of the following is true of active transport?
denpristay [2]

Answer:

D. Molecules called pumps function to control active transport.

Explanation:

Active transport is one of the two types of transport (the other being passive transport). It is the type of transport in which substances move against their concentration gradient i.e. from a lower concentration to a higher concentration. Hence, due to this, energy input in form of ATP is required by the cell.

However, the process of active transport makes use of certain molecules called PUMPS to control it. The pumps moves ions/molecules against their concentration gradient. An example is the sodium-pottasium pump which moves sodium ions from a region of low conc. to a region of high conc.

Fill in the missing words. naturalselection foundereffect geographicallyisolated species evolution
grandymaker [24]

Hi!

The ancestral finch founded a new population on one of the Hawaiian Islands. Due to the founder effect , allele frequencies of the first small population on one of the islands could have differed from their continental goldfinch-like ancestors. The process of natural selection resulted in adaptation and evolution of the island population into a new species over time. Some of the birds crossed to some of the other islands where they were geographically isolated and evolved into more species occupying different niches.

In terms of population genetics, founder effect is when there is a loss of genetic diversity as a result of the establishment of a new population by a relatively few individuals. Following such an establishment, natural selection is the process  which results in the genes of the fittest individuals of the population being selected over generations. This process ultimately results in evolution, and over time may give rise to new species. Geographical isolation is the physical separation of a population from another owing to geographical changes in the terrain or area. If two populations of the same species are geographically isolated, there is a great chance over time they may evolve into two different species.

Hope this helps!
