In the novel, Victor Frankenstein's little brother died as well, mirroring what happened to her in real life. She later had two more children who died. She had many half-brothers and half-sisters but one in particular, Fanny Imlay, was the one she was closest to. Fanny ended her own life which devastated Mary.
