Answer:

The total momentum of the cat and the dog is, p = 2.4 kg m/s

Explanation:

Given,

The mass of the cat, m = 800 g

                                       = 0.800 kg

The mass of the dog, M = 1000 g

                                         = 1 kg

The velocity of the cat taken positive x direction, v = 8 m/s

The velocity of the dog, V = - 4 m/s

The momentum of the body is defined as the product of its mass and velocity.

                                      p = mv

The momentum of the cat,

                                      p₁ = 0.8 x 8

                                          = 6.4 kg m/s

The momentum of the dog,

                                       p₂ = MV

                                            = 1 x -4

                                            = -4 kg m/s

The total momentum,

                                      p = p₁ + p₂

                                          = 6.4 + (-4)

                                          = 2.4 kg m/s

Hence, the total momentum of the cat and the dog is, p = 2.4 kg m/s

A 42.0-kg parachutist is moving straight downward with a speed of 3.85 m/s. (a) If the parachutist comes to rest with constant a
RideAnS [48]

Answer:

-414.96 N

Explanation:

t = Time taken

u = Initial velocity

v = Final velocity

s = Displacement

a = Acceleration

v^2-u^2=2as\\\Rightarrow a=\frac{v^2-u^2}{2s}\\\Rightarrow a=\frac{0^2-3.85^2}{2\times 0.75}\\\Rightarrow a=-9.88\ m/s^2

F=ma\\\Rightarrow F=42\times -9.88\\\Rightarrow F=-414.96\ N

The force the ground exerts on the parachutist is -414.96 N

If the distance is shorter than 0.75 m then the acceleration will increase causing the force to increase

Which statement best explains why sound waves cannot travel through space
Naddika [18.5K]
The vacuum of outer space has essentially zero air. Because sound is just vibrating air, space has no air to vibrate and therefore no sound. If you are sitting in a space ship and another space ship explodes, you would hear nothing. So, in order for sound to travel, there has to be something with molecules for it to travel through. On Earth, sound travels to your ears by vibrating air molecules. In deep space, the large empty areas between stars and planets, there are no molecules to vibrate. There is no sound there.

The compound ethylene (C2H4) is represented by this diagram. What statement best describes the arrangement of the atoms in an et
Effectus [21]

Answer: The correct answer is two electrons are shared between each hydrogen atom and the carbon atom bonded to it, and four electrons are shared between the carbon atoms.

Explanation:

Ethylene is a compound given by the chemical formula H_2C=CH_2.

The bond present between hydrogen and carbon atoms or carbon and carbon atoms are covalent bonds. A covalent bond is formed by the sharing of electrons between the atoms combining.

A double bond is present between carbon and carbon atoms. So 2 pairs of electrons are shared which means in total of 4 electrons are shared.

Bond present between hydrogen and carbon atoms are single bonds. So, a pair of electrons is shared which means that in total of 2 electrons are shared.

Hence, the correct answer is two electrons are shared between each hydrogen atom and the carbon atom bonded to it, and four electrons are shared between the carbon atoms.
