3. An object of mass m is moving with a speed of v0 to the right on a horizontal frictionless surface, when it explodes into two

pieces. Subsequently, on piece of mass 3/5 m moves with a speed of v0/2 to the left. The speed and direction of the other piece of the object is ______________.

Answer:

The speed of the other piece of the object is 13/4*v0, going to the right.

Explanation:

Assuming that no external forces acting during the explosion (as the time during which it happens is considered infinitesimal), total momentum must be conserved , same as it happens with the total mass, assuming that v₀ is much smaller than c (speed of light), so no conversion of mass into energy is done.

So, based on the information provided, we can write the following expression, assuming the positive direction to be the one  to the right:

m*v₀ = -3/5*m*(v₀/2) + 2/5*m*vₓ

Solving for vₓ, we have:

vₓ = 13/4*v₀, to the right, as the value obtained is positive.

A block of gelatin is 120mm by 120mm by 40mm whrn unstressed. A force of 49N is applied tangentially to the upper surface causin
Inessa05 [86]

Answer:

The shearing stress is 10208.3333 Pa

The shearing strain is 0.25

The shear modulus is 40833.3332 Pa

Explanation:

Given:

Block of gelatin of 120 mm x 120 mm by 40 mm

F = force = 49 N

Displacement = 10 mm

Questions: Find the shear modulus, Sm = ?, shearing stress, Ss = ?, shearing strain, SS = ?

The shearing stress is defined as the force applied to the block over the projected area, first, it is necessary to calculate the area:

A = 40*120 = 4800 mm² = 0.0048 m²

The shearing stress:

Ss=\frac{F}{A} =\frac{49}{0.0048} =10208.3333Pa

The shearing strain is defined as the tangent of the displacement that the block over its length:

SS=tan\theta =\frac{Displacement}{L}  =\frac{10}{40} =0.25

Finally, the shear modulus is the division of the shearing stress over the shearing strain:

Sm=\frac{10208.3333}{0.25} =40833.3332Pa

Which movement of the Earth cause day and night?
MrRa [10]

The Earth's rotation does, like a basketball spinning
on the tip of Kobe Bryant's finger.

Since the Earth is somewhat bigger than a basketball,
it takes almost 24 hours to do one complete spin.

The sun can only light up 50% of the Earth at a time.
As the Earth spins, it moves you and me in and out
of the lighted half.  Any time we're not in the lighted
half, we describe our situation as a "night" status.

You have been sent to a new home. The homeowner reports that sometimes the electric furnace trips the 240-V, 60-A circuit breake
Zarrin [17]

Answer:

Explanation:

We should know that, Power is given as

P = IV

Where

P is power in watts

I is current in amps

And V is potential difference in Volts

The circuit breaker is design to be

240V, 60A.

So current above 60A will trip the circuit breaker off. Circuit breaker trips OFF when much current is flowing through the breaker.

Now,

The furnace that do trip the circuit breaker off has three heating element each of 5000W

And this element do not trip ON at once it is stage by stage.

When the first element is ON, the current it will draw from the MAINS is

We know that the first heating element has a power rating of 3000W.

P = IV

I' = P/V = 3000 / 240

I' = 20.833Amps

The circuit breaker is still OK with this because it has a capacity of 60A

After a while, the second, the second heating element is trip ON

And this will also draws a current of

I'' = P/V = 3000/240

I'' = 20.833amps

So, the total current drawn now is

I = I' + I" = 20.833 + 20.833

I = 41.667 amps

Again, the circuit breaker is still okay with this because it has a 60A capacity

After a while again, the third element is trip ON and this will also draw current of

I"' = P/V = 3000/240

I"' = 20.833 amps

Now, the total current drawn is

I = I' + I" + I"'

I = 20.833+20.833+20.833

I = 62.5 Amps

Wow, this is above the circuit rating of the breaker, then it will trip off.

Recommendation

I will recommend they get a new circuit breaker of higher capacity maybe 240V, 80-100A circuit breaker, since changing the furnace might cause a fortune.
