There are three major reasons why people immigrate to other countries: work, love and war. In the late 1800s, immigrants in the United States tried to assimilate with the current populations by learning to speak English and adopting current American cultures and traditions. This is known as the process of Americanization. The idea is that immigrants end up sharing the "American" values, customs and beliefs. The idea behind Americanization is that people who share common values and ideals will contribute to a common cause or goal. This is also known as patriotism.

A proposal for unifying colonial government presented at the Albany Congress by Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Hutchinson. The plan called for a limited governmental agency, representing all the colonies, that would coordinate defense and indian affairs. The delegates approved the plan, neither the colonial governments nor the British supported the proposal.

The Schlieffen Plan was created in World War 1. It was used by the Germans to in order to fight France and Russia in the war. Germany was one of the central powers and was therefore in the "middle" of France and Russia. Russia was allied with France, so once a country declared war on France, the Russian army had to pitch in and help them fight.
Furthermore, the Germans declared war on France and Russia was ready to mobilize.
While Russia was mobilizing, the Germans wanted to fight one front at once quickly, so they could then fight Russia. They had to march through neutral Belgium and encircle the French army.
