Hes using trigonomtery of a right angled triangle.

tan 72 = x / 12.25        where x = height of the wall

x = 12.25 * tan 72 =  37.7 feet

Solve for x.<br><br> 3(x-1)-8=4(1+x)+5<br><br> Also could someone please explain how to do this??

Answer:

  x = -20

Step-by-step explanation:

First, simplify the equation. Eliminate parentheses and combine terms.

  3(x -1) -8 = 4(1 +x) +5 . . . . . . . given

  3x -3 -8 = 4 +4x +5 . . . . . . . . eliminate parentheses (distributive property)

  3x -11 = 4x +9 . . . . . . . . . . . . combine like terms

We can put all the x-terms on the right by subtracting 3x from both sides.

  3x -11 -3x = 4x +9 -3x

  -11 = x +9

And we can get the x-term by itself by subtracting 9 from both sides.

  -11 -9 = x +9 -9

  -20 = x . . . . . . . . . . this is the solution

__

<em>Check</em>

3(-20 -1) -8 = 4(1 -20) +5

3(-21) -8 = 4(-19) +5

-63 -8 = -76 +5

-71 = -71 . . . . . . . . . true, the answer checks OK

_____

<em>Additional comment</em>

We observe that the two x-terms are 3x and 4x. The smaller of these is 3x, so when we subtract that from 4x we will have a <em>positive</em> result. That is why we chose to subtract 3x, even though it leaves the x-term on the right side of the equation. We could have subtracted 4x to get -x -11 = 9. I find it easier not to make a mistake if the variable has a positive coefficient.

Smart people. Please click here. I attached a pic of the problem
sergey [27]

Look at the picture.

r=\sqrt{x^2+y^2}

\sin\theta=\dfrac{y}{r}\\\\\cos\theta=\dfrac{x}{r}\\\\\tan\theta=\dfrac{y}{x}\\\\\cot\theta=\dfrac{x}{y}\\\\\sec\theta=\dfrac{r}{x}\\\\\csc\thera=\dfrac{r}{y}

We have the point \left(\dfrac{8}{17},\ \dfrac{15}{17}\right)\to x=\dfrac{8}{17},\ y=\dfrac{15}{17}.

Calculate r:

r=\sqrt{\left(\dfrac{8}{17}\right)^2+\left(\dfrac{15}{17}\right)^2}=\sqrt{\dfrac{64}{289}+\dfrac{225}{289}}=\sqrt{\dfrac{289}{289}}=\sqrt1=1

\sin\theta=\dfrac{\frac{15}{17}}{1}=\dfrac{15}{17}\\\\\cos\theta=\dfrac{\frac{8}{17}}{1}=\dfrac{8}{17}\\\\\tan\theta=\dfrac{\frac{15}{17}}{\frac{8}{17}}=\dfrac{15}{17}:\dfrac{8}{17}=\dfrac{15}{17}\cdot\dfrac{17}{8}=\dfrac{15}{8}\\\\\cot\theta=\dfrac{\frac{8}{17}}{\frac{15}{17}}=\dfrac{8}{17}:\dfrac{15}{17}=\dfrac{8}{17}\cdot\dfrac{17}{15}=\dfrac{8}{15}\\\\\sec\theta=\dfrac{1}{\frac{8}{17}}=1:\dfrac{8}{17}=\dfrac{17}{8}\\\\\csc\theta=\dfrac{1}{\frac{15}{17}}=1:\dfrac{15}{17}=\dfrac{17}{15}

317,362 x 129,324<br> Is it even or odd
Anna35 [415]

Answer:

41,042,523,288 It is even.

Step-by-step explanation:

To tell whether a number is even or odd, look at the number in the ones place. That single number will tell you whether the entire number is odd or even. An even number ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8. An odd number ends in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.
