A concentration gradient can be described as a phenomenon by which molecules travels from an area which is highly concentrated to an area which has low concentrations of that molecule.

A molecule is said to be diffusing down a concentration gradient when molecule acquire the phenomenon of concentration gradient i.e move from higher concentration to lower concentration. This mechanism is also termed as passive transport. Active transport is the opposite of passive transport.     It all starts at your mouth, you are going to do a lot of the job for the food to get to your stomach by chewing it. After it gets to your stomach, the digestion will do its job as the pH there is less than 7. After this process, the food is going to your intestine, and then, it's right here, that the sugar/carbohydrates you ate are going to get into your blood. After this, sugar is going to be used to create energy for your cells and body to work properly, with that, sugar is consumed and you can start the process all over again.

Much energy is demanded within a short period in a sprint as opposed to long-distance that mainly demands stamina. During sprints, therefore, the energy demands by the muscles my outpace the supply by energy because oxygen is not reaching fast enough for aerobic cellular respiration. This is why sprinting cannot be sustained for long without accumulation of lactic acid in muscles – due to glycolysis metabolisms being the main source of energy.

IN long substance however, the runner does not sprint the entire marathon but run at sustainable speeds allowing the energy demands by the muscles to be met by the more effective aerobic respiration
