During TRANSCRIPTION, DNA serves as a template to assemble a strand of RNA. Transcription is the very first stage in the process of gene expression. During transcription, genetic information from a specific DNA is copied into RNA, thus the DNA is serving as template. The enzyme that catalyses the reaction is RNA polymerase. The transcribed RNA is used by the cells to synthesize proteins.

Answer:

During ____Transcription____ , DNA serves as a template to assemble a strand of RNA.

Explanation:

 • DNA is macro molecule containing units of nucleotide base and contains the blue print for the protein production in the cell.
 • Protein production includes two processes, DNA to RNA and RNA to proteins.
 • The process of converting DNA into RNA is known as transcription while process from RNA to protein is known as translation.
 • Hence the answer in the blank is transcription.
 • Transcription happens in the nucleus of the cell.
