A heat engine operates between a hot reservoir with a temperature of 400 K and a cold reservoir with a temperature of 300 K. The

engine accepts 500 J of energy from the hot reservoir, does 150 J of work, and exhausts 350 J of energy into the cold reservoir. 1) Does this engine violate any laws of thermodynamics?

Answer:

Explanation:

Given

Temperature of Hot reservoir T_1=400 K

Temperature of Cold reservoir T_2=300 K

Heat reservoir Q=500 J

Work done W=150 J

heat Exhaust Q_{rejection }=350 J

Q=W+Q_{rejected}

500=150+350

L.H.S=R.H.S

thus it follows first law

\eta _{carnot}=1-\frac{T_L}{T_H}

\eta _{carnot}=1-\frac{300}{400}

\eta _{carnot}=0.25

Cycle Efficiency

\eta =\frac{W}{Q}=\frac{150}{500}=0.3

Carnot efficiency is less than cycle thus it violates second law

A 2 kg object with 100 J potential energy (with respect to the ground) is released from rest from the top of a building, the spe
ioda

velocity of object just before hitting the ground = 10 m/s

10 m/sExplanation:

here's the solution : -

=》mechanical energy is always constant, when the object is at the top of the building , the object has potential energy but no kinetic energy,

so, at the top of the building the mechanical energy = potential energy = 100 J

but at when it is dropped from the building, the whole potential energy get converted into kinetic energy, just before reaching the bottom .

so, mechanical energy in the object just before hitting the ground = kinetic energy

( potential energy = 0 )

So, kinetic energy = 100 J

now, we know

kinetic \: energy =  \frac{1}{2}  \times m {v}^{2}

=》

100 =  \frac{1}{2}  \times 2 \times  {v}^{2}

( since, mass = 2 kg )

=》

100 =  {v}^{2}

=》

v =  \sqrt{100}

=》

v = 10

so, velocity of object just before hitting the ground = 10 m/s

Can a vector with a non zero component be zero?
Mice21 [21]

Answer:

A vector only has zero magnitude if and only if all its components are 0. Therefore, a vector can have non-zero magnitude if a component is zero.
