For a continuous and oriented fiber-reinforced composite, the moduli of elasticity in the longitudinal and transverse directions

are 19.7 and 3.66 GPa (2.8×106 and 5.3×105 psi), respectively. If the volume fraction of fibers is 0.43, determine the moduli of elasticity of fiber and matrix phases.

Determine (with justification) whether the following systems are (i) memoryless, (ii) causal, (iii) invertible, (iv) stable, and
lina2011 [118]

Answer:

a.

y[n] = x[n] x[n-1]  x[n+1]

(i) Memory-less - It is not memory-less because the given system is depend on past or future values.

(ii) Causal - It is non-casual because the present value of output depend on the future value of input.

(iii) Invertible - It is invertible and the inverse of the given system is \frac{1}{x[n] . x[n-1] x[n+1]}

(iv) Stable - It is stable because for all the bounded input, output is bounded.

(v) Time invariant - It is not time invariant because the system is multiplying with a time varying function.

b.

y[n] = cos(x[n])

(i) Memory-less - It is memory-less because the given system is not depend on past or future values.

(ii) Causal - It is casual because the present value of output does not depend on the future value of input.

(iii) Invertible - It is not invertible because two or more than two input values can generate same output values .

For example - for x[n] = 0 , y[n] = cos(0) = 1

                       for x[n] = 2\pi , y[n] = cos(2\pi) = 1

(iv) Stable - It is stable because for all the bounded input, output is bounded.

(v) Time invariant - It is time invariant because the system is not multiplying with a time varying function.

A simple undamped spring-mass system is set into motion from rest by giving it an initial velocity of 100 mm/s. It oscillates wi
____ [38]

Answer:

f=1.59 Hz

Explanation:

Given that

Simple undamped system means ,system does not consists any damper.If system consists damper then it is damped spring mass system.

Velocity = 100 mm/s

Maximum amplitude = 10 mm

We know that for a simple undamped system spring mass system

V_{max}=\omega A

now by putting the values

V_{max}=\omega A

100 = ω x 10

ω = 10 rad/s

We also know that

ω=2π f

10 = 2 x π x f

f=1.59 Hz

So the natural frequency will be f=1.59 Hz.

A rocket is launched vertically from rest with a constant thrust until the rocket reaches an altitude of 25 m and the thrust end
hjlf

Answer:

a) v=19.6 m/s

b) H=19.58 m

c) v_{f}=29.57 m/s

Explanation:

a) Let's calculate the work done by the rocket until the thrust ends.

W=F_{tot}h=(F_{thrust}-mg)h=(35-(2*9.81))*25=384.5 J

But we know the work is equal to change of kinetic energy, so:

W=\Delta K=\frac{1}{2}mv^{2}

v=\sqrt{\frac{2W}{m}}=19.6 m/s

b) Here we have a free fall motion, because there is not external forces acting, that is way we can use the free-fall equations.

v_{f}^{2}=v_{i}^{2}-2gh

At the maximum height the velocity is 0, so v(f) = 0.

0=v_{i}^{2}-2gH

H=\frac{19.6^{2}}{2*9.81}=19.58 m

c) Here we can evaluate the motion equation between the rocket at 25 m from the ground and the instant before the rocket touch the ground.

Using the same equation of part b)

v_{f}^{2}=v_{i}^{2}-2gh

v_{f}=\sqrt{19.6^{2}-(2*9.81*(-25))}=29.57 m/s

The minus sign of 25 means the zero of the reference system is at the pint when the thrust ends.

I hope it helps you!
