Two basketball players are essentially equal in all respects. (They are the same height, they jump with the same initial velocit

y, etc.) In particular, by jumping they can raise their centers of mass the same vertical distance, H (called their "vertical leap"). The first player, Arabella, wishes to shoot over the second player, Boris, and for this she needs to be as high above Boris as possible. Arabella jumps at time ?

Answer:

Two basketball players are essentially equal in all respects.(They are the same height, they jump with the same initial velocity, etc.) In particular, by jumping they can raise their centers of mass the same vertical distance, H (called their "vertical leap"). The first player,Arabella, wishes to shoot over the second player, Boris, and forth is she needs to be as high above Boris as possible. Arabella jumps at time t = 0, and Boris jumps later, at time  t_{r} (his reaction time). Assume that Arabella has not yet reached her maximum height when Boris jumps.

Part A.) Find the vertical displacement D(t)  = h_{A} (t) - h_{B}(t), as a function of time for the interval 0 < t <  t_{r} , where h_{A} (t) is the height of the raised hands of Arabella, while h_{B}(t) is the height of the raised hands of Boris. (Express thevertical displacement in terms of H, g,and t.)

Part B.) Find the vertical displacement D(t)  between the raised hands of the two players for the time period after Boris has jumped (t >t_{R} ) but before Arabella has landed. (Express your answer in terms of t, t_{R}, g, and H)

Part C.) What advice would you give Arabellato minimize the chance of her shot being blocked?

Shoot when you have the maximum vertical velocity.

Shoot at the instant Boris leaves the ground.

Shoot when you have the same vertical velocity as Boris.

Shoot when you reach the top of your jump (when your height is ).

The answers to the question are

a) √(2×g×H) ×t -0.5×g×t²

b) (√(2×g×H)+ 0.5× (t_{R} -t) ×g) ×t_{R}

c) Shoot at the instant Boris leaves the ground

Explanation:

For Arabella  h_{A} (t) = h₀ + v₀×t - 0.5×g×t²

Height of Boris = h_{B}(t) = h₀ + v₀×(t- t_{R}) - 0.5×g×(t- t_{R})²

During the period 0 < t <  t_{r}, h_{B}(t) = h₀

Hence   D(t)  = h_{A} (t) - h_{B}(t) =  h_{A} (t) = h₀ + v₀×t - 0.5×g×t² - h₀

=  v₀×t - 0.5×g×t² = √(2×g×H) ×t -0.5×g×t²

b) for t >  t_{r} we have

D(t)  = h_{A} (t) - h_{B}(t)  = h₀ + v₀×t - 0.5×g×t² - (h₀ + v₀×(t- t_{R}) - 0.5×g×(t- t_{R})²)

=v₀×t - 0.5×g×t² - v₀×(t- t_{R}) + 0.5×g×(t- t_{R})²

=v₀×t_{R} - 0.5×g×t² +0.5×g×(t²-2×t× t_{R} +  t_{R}²)

= v₀×t_{R} +0.5×g× t_{R} ²-g×t× t_{R}

=√(2×g×H)×( t_{R} ) + 0.5×g× t_{R} ²-g×t× t_{R}

= √(2×g×H)×( t_{R} ) + 0.5× (t_{R} -t) g×t_{R}

(√(2×g×H)+ 0.5× (t_{R} -t) ×g) ×t_{R}

(c)  From the the above equation we get by differentiating

d((√(2×g×H)+ 0.5× (t_{R} -t) ×g) ×t_{R} )/dtr

= √(2×g×H) + g×( t_{R} - t)  and since t >  t_{R} then D(t)  = h_{A} (t) - h_{B}(t)  will be highest when  t_{R} = 0

Shoot at the instant Boris leaves the ground

Please Please I only need help in Questions 4 and 5!
sdas [7]
I'm not sure but for the first one, if there were more electrons than protons that would mean the object would have a positive charge so you could put another object that is positively charged near it, to see if it would attract and if it would it would mean it's negatively charged and if it wouldn't it would mean it's positively charged. (not sure)

for the second one, after you've rubbed the balloon oh hair, the electrons from your hair have transferred onto the balloon, meaning that the balloon is now negatively charged. because the wall is neutral, it means that it has the SAME number of both protons and electrons ( positive and negative charges cancel out to create a neutral charge). because the protons are positively charged, and the balloon is negatively charged, the two objects will attract because opposite charges attract. this happens because of static electricity.

hope this helps :)

A system consists of N particles that can occupy two energy levels: a nondegenerate ground state and a three-fold degenerate exc
cupoosta [38]

Answer:

Ng = 0.893 N,  Ne = 0.107N

Explanation:

Number of particles in Ground state = Ng

Number of particles in Excited state = Ne

Ne/Ng = e^{(-ΔE)/kt}

Since excited state is 3 fold degenerate

Ne/Ng =3 x e^{(-ΔE)/kt}

ΔE = Energy difference between ground and excited states = 0.25eV

T = 960 K

Constant k = 8.617 x 10^-5 eV/K

Ne/Ng = 3 x e^{-0.25/(8.617x10^-5) x 960}

           = 3 x e^(-3.188645)

           = 3 x 0.0412 = 0.1237 ≅ 0.12

Ne = 0.12 Ng

but Ne + Ng = N, where is N is total number of particles, substituting Ne into equation we get,

Ng(1 + 0.12) = N

Ng = N/1.12 = 0.893N

and Ne = 0.12 x 0.893 N = 0.107 N
