A solar lamp, also called a SAD lamp or light therapy box, is a special light that mimics natural light. This therapy, called light exposure therapy, is an effective treatment for seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which is a type of depression that occurs during autumn and winter, when there are fewer hours of sunlight. The light from a solar lamp is believed to have a positive impact on serotonin and melatonin, as they help to control your sleep and wake cycle.
Serotonin also helps to reduce anxiety and improve mood. Low levels of it have been linked to depression. Sitting in front of a solar lamp on the first of the day can improve symptoms of SAD within a few days to a few weeks.
