What exponents do you know that share names with different kinds of shapes? It may surprise you (or not) to discover that taking the square of a number and taking the cube of a number both derive their names from finding the space inside a square and a cube respectively. For squaring (as in x²) this corresponds to calculating the area of a square with side lengths x. For cubing (as in x³), it corresponds to calculating the volume of a cube with edge lengths x.

So, if we want to find the volume of a cube with edge length 5 in, we just need to find the value of 5³. (Keep in mind that our final units will be in in³)

Find an equation of the plane passing through the point (0,0,6) perpendicular to x=1-t y=2+t z=4-2t
Kisachek [45]

Answer:

The equation of plane is x-y+z=12.

Step-by-step explanation:

It is given that the plane passing through the point (0,0,6) perpendicular to x=1-t y=2+t z=4-2t.

The given line is perpendicular to required plane, so coefficients of t represents the normal vector.

Normal vector is

\overrightarrow {n}=

If a plane passes through (x_1,y_1,z_1) and having normal vector \overrightarrow {n}=, then the equation of plane is

a(x-x_1)+b(y-y_1)+c(z-z_1)=0

-1(x-0)+1(y-0)+(-2)(z-6)=0

-x+y-2z+12=0

-x+y-2z=-12

Multiply both sides by -1.

x-y+2z=12

Therefore, the equation of plane is x-y+z=12.

A clock tower has a circular clock face with a circumference of 48π feet. What is the radius of the clock face ?
KatRina [158]

Answer:

r = 24 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Circumference is given by

C = 2 * pi *r

We know that C = 48 pi

48 pi = 2 * pi * r

Divide each side by pi

48 pi /pi= 2 * pi * r/pi

48 = 2 r

Divide each side by 2

48/2 = 2r/2

24 = r

Ind the approximate increase in its area if its radius increases from mm to mm. [Recall that the area of a circle is A.]
nlexa [21]

Answer:

Increase in area of circle is 263.76 square mm

Step-by-step explanation:

The actual question is

Find the approximate increase in its area if the radius increases from 20 mm to 22 mm.

Solution

The area of a circle of radius r is given by

A = \pi r^2

Area of circle of radius 20 mm is

A_1 = \pi 20^2\\A_1 = 400\pi square mm

Area of circle of radius 22 mm is

A_2 = \pi 22^2\\A_2 = 484\pi square mm

Increase in area of circle

A_2 - A_1 = 484 \pi - 400 \pi \\A_2 - A_1 = 84 \pi \\A_2 - A_1 = 263.76 square mm
