Answer:

Independent variable -  Amount of thermal energy added

dependent variable - speed of gas molecules

Explanation:

The independent variable is the variable that does not change during the experimental. It is that variable that causes  a specific change in the experimental frame work.

In the setup above, the amount of thermal energy added is the independent variable.

The dependent variable is that variable that results from the action of the independent variable. It is the effect of applying some specific measures in an  experiment.

In the setup above, we are examining how heat affects the kinetic energy of gas molecules. Kinetic energy has a lot to do with motion of the particles of system. Therefore, the speed of the gas molecules is the dependent variable.

If an element in a chemical reaction loses electrons, which of the following describes what happens to that element?
EastWind [94]

Answer : The correct option is, (D) it is oxidized.

Explanation :

On the basis of electrons, there are two types of reactions :

(1) Oxidation reaction     (2) Reduction reaction

Oxidation reaction : When an element loses electrons in a chemical reaction then that element gets oxidized in the chemical reaction and its oxidation number increases.

Reduction reaction : When an element gains electrons in a chemical reaction then that element gets reduced in the chemical reaction and its oxidation number decreases.

Hence, the correct answer is (D).

How many atoms of iodine are in 12.75g of CaI2? Hint. How many Iodines are there in one CaI2 particle?
xenn [34]

Answer:

5.225x10^{22}atoms\ I

Explanation:

Hello!

In this case, since 12.75 g of calcium iodide has the following number of moles (molar mass = 293.89 g/mol):

n_{CaI_2}=12.75gCaI_2*\frac{1molCaI_2}{293.89gCaI_2}=0.0434molCaI_2

In such a way, since 1 mole of calcium iodide contains 2 moles of atoms of iodine, and one mole of atoms of iodine contains 6.022x10²³ atoms (Avogadro's number), we compute the resulting atoms as shown below:

atoms\ I=0.0434molCaI_2*\frac{2molI}{1molCaI_2} *\frac{6.022x10^{23}atoms\ I}{1molI} \\\\atoms\ I = 5.225x10^{22}atoms\ I

Best regards!
