A traveling wave is described by the following function y=0.12 cos (4x +2t). Here y(x,t) is the displacement of the particle at

location x at time t. All quantities are in SI units. Determine the speed and the direction of the wave.
a. 2 m/s along+x direction.
b. 0.5 m/s along +x direction.
c. 2 m/s along -x direction.
d. 0.5 m/s along - direction.

Answer:

d. 0.5 m/s along -x direction

Explanation:

Wave: A wave is a disturbance, that travels through a medium and transfers energy from one point to another, without causing any permanent displacement of the medium itself.

The general equation of a traveling wave can be expressed as

y = Acos(2πft-2πx/λ).................................. Equation 1

Where A = amplitude of the wave, f = frequency of the wave, λ = wavelength of the wave, x = linear distance, t = time, π = pie.

From the question,

the equation of the moving wave is

y = 0.12cos(4x+2t) ................................... equation 2

Comparing equation 1 and 2

-2πx/λ = 4x

λ  = -2π/4

λ  = -2(3.14)/4

λ  = -1.57 m.

Also,

2πft = 2t

f = 2t/2πft

f = 1/π

f = 1/3.14

f = 0.3185 Hz.

Recall that

v = λf.......................... Equation 3

Substitute the value of f and λ  into equation 3

v = -1.57(0.3185)

v = - 0.5 m/s.

Note: v is negative because - x direction

Hence the right option is d. 0.5 m/s along -x direction

1. Where is the magnetic field most nearly uniform?
goldenfox [79]

One

A wire carrying a current creates a circular field. Not A.

B is pretty uniform. I would pick it.

C The lines bend around the north and south poles. Not C

D Same Remark as C.

Two

  • The force exerted by the magnetic field is the palm of your right hand.
  • Your thumb is the direction of the charged stream
  • The fingers are the direction of B which I take to be into the page.

If all these are in agreement with what you think you have been given then A is the correct answer. The proton will be defected in the direction of the palm.

Three

As stated in One the fingers point in the direction of B, The thumb is the direction of the charge and the palm is the direction of the force when the item is a plus charge. When the travelling charge is minus as this one is, use the back of your hand. In that case, The electron will be deflected downward. This assumes the Magnetic field is pointing into the page.

The answer is A.

An object of mass m is sliding with speed vi at some instant across a level tabletop, with which its coefficient of kinetic fric
gogolik [260]

Answer:

√2µgd = vi

Explanation:

Given that the mass of object is m

Sliding speed of object is vi

coefficient of kinetic friction is µ

Distance covered is d

Final speed, vf is 0

Equation to apply will be;

v²f=v²i-2µgd where  g is acceleration due to gravity

v²f+2µgd=v²i----------------------but v²f = 0

2µgd=v²i

√2µgd = vi

Valentin [98]

Answer:

The strength of the magnetic field is 75.6\ \mu T.

Explanation:

Given that,

Length of the rod, L = 1.01 m

Speed with which the rod is moving, v = 3.47 m/s

We need to find the strength of the magnetic field that is perpendicular to both the rod and your direction of motion and that induces an EMF of 0.265 mV across the rod. When the rod is moving with some speed, an emf gets induced and it is given by :

\epsilon=Blv

B is magnetic field

B=\dfrac{\epsilon}{lv}\\\\B=\dfrac{0.265\times 10^{-3}}{1.01\times 3.47}\\\\B=75.6\ \mu T

So, the strength of the magnetic field is 75.6\ \mu T.

Which occurs when a wave is reflected?
dmitriy555 [2]

Answer: The wave can flip upside down.

Reflection is the bending of a wave when it cannot pass through. For example, plain mirrors which are flat, a ray of light hits the mirror and is reflected from the mirror since it cannot pass through

When reflection occurs the speed and frequency of the wave does not change but the wave is flipped upside down.

The speed does not change because speed is affected by the change in medium the frequency also remains the same since the energy of the wave does not change.

Answer:

According to our present theory of solar system formation, why were solid planetesimals able to grow larger in the outer solar system than in the inner solar system? Because only metal and rock could condense in the inner solar system, while ice also condensed in the outer solar system.
