Answer :

(a) AlH_3

In this Lewis dot structure, there are 3 bond pair and 0 lone pair on the central atom. The total number of electron pair is 3. So, the hybridization of the molecule will be, sp^2 and the geometry will be, trigonal planar.

(b) CH_2F_2

In this Lewis dot structure, there are 4 bond pair and 0 lone pair on the central atom. The total number of electron pair is 4. So, the hybridization of the molecule will be, sp^3 and the geometry will be, tetrahedral.

(c) PH_3

In this Lewis dot structure, there are 3 bond pair and 1 lone pair on the central atom. The total number of electron pair is 4. So, the hybridization of the molecule will be, sp^3 but the the fourth position will be occupied by one lone pair. Hence, the geometry will be, trigonal pyramidal not tetrahedral.

(d) O_3

In this Lewis dot structure, there are 2 bond pair and 1 lone pair on the central atom. The total number of electron pair is 3. So, the hybridization of the molecule will be, sp^2 but the the third position will be occupied by one lone pair. Hence, the geometry will be, bent not linear.

What is electronegativity ???
guapka [62]

Answer:

Electronegativity, symbolized as χ, is the tendency for an atom of a given chemical element to attract shared electrons (or electron density) when forming a chemical bond. An atom's electronegativity is affected by both its atomic number and the distance at which its valence electrons reside from the charged nucleus.

1. mol ratio of Al(NO₃)₃ : Na₂CO₃ = 2 : 3

2. Na₂CO₃ as a limiting reactant

Further explanation

Given

Reaction

2 Al(NO₃)₃ + 3 Na₂CO₃ → Al₂(CO₃)₃ + 6 NaNO₃

Required

mol ratio

Limiting reactant

Solution

The reaction coefficient in the chemical equation shows the mole ratio of the components of the compound involved in the reaction (reactants and products)

1. From the equation mol ratio of Al(NO₃)₃ : Na₂CO₃ = 2 : 3

2. mol : coefficient of Al(NO₃)₃ : Na₂CO₃ = 2 mole/2 : 2 mole/3 = 1 : 0.67

Na₂CO₃ as a limiting reactant (smaller)

Q1. Briefly explain why the Zeff experienced by a valence electron in Cl is larger than in Mg. Q2. Briefly explain why the Zeff
Inessa05 [86]

Answer:

See explanation

Explanation:

Q1:

Chlorine has 17 protons while magnesium has only 12 protons. Recall that the Zeff depends on the size of the nuclear charge. The greater the size of the nuclear charge, the larger the Zeff experienced by a valence electron.

Q2:

The larger the Zeff, the smaller the atomic radius. Since the valence electrons of Cl experience a greater Zeff than those of Mg due to greater size of the nuclear charge, the atomic radius of chlorine will be smaller than that of Mg.

Q3:

The radius of an atom increases as the value of the principal quantum number (n) increases down the group due to addition of more shells. The greater the number of shells added, the greater the principal quantum number (n) and the greater the atomic radius, hence the answer.

Convert 1.39 x 10^24 atoms of carbon to moles of carbon
Nimfa-mama [501]
If 1mol ------- is ----------- 6,02×10²³
so x ------- is ----------- 1,39×10²⁴

x=\frac{1,39*10^{24}*1mol}{6,02*10^{23}}\approx2,31mol
