Margaret is reading a book. The number of pages she has left to read is 276−35d276−35d , where d represents the number of days s

he has been reading. What does each part of the expression represent?
35= ___
276=____
35 D=____

(options for answers: The number of pages read during one day, the total number of pages in the book, the number of pages she has read during D days, the number of pages she has read during 1 week)

I believe these are the answers but, I am not sure!

35= The number of pages read during 1 day
276= the total number of pages in the book
35D= the number of pages she has read during D days, the number of pages she has read during 1 week

276 - 35d

276 = total pages
35 = pages read per day
35D = number of pages she has read during D days

Let

P-------> the number of pages Margaret has left to read

d-------> the number of days Margaret has been reading

we know that

P=276-35d

This is a linear equation

where

-35 ------> is the slope of the equation

represent 35\frac{pages\ read}{day}

276 ------> the total number of pages in the book

35d ------> the number of pages she has read during d days

We take the equation <span>d = -16t^2+12t</span> and subtract d from both sides to get
                                         0<span> = -16t^2+12t - d
We apply the quadratic formula to solve for t. With a = -16, b = 12, c = -d, we have
                                         t = [ -(12) </span><span>± √( 12^2 - 4(-16)(-d) ) ] / [2 * -16]</span>
                                           = [- 12 ± √(144-64d) ] / (-32)
                                           = [- 12 ± √16(9-4d)] / (-32)
                                           = [- 12 ± 4√(9-4d)] / (-32)
                                           = 3/8 ±√(9-4d) / 8
The answer to your question is t = 3/8 ±√(9-4d) / 8

If k(x) = x^2 and p(x) = k(x) + n, what is the value of n?
kodGreya [7K]

Answer:

The value of n is -6

Step-by-step explanation:

  • If the function f(x) is translated k units up, then its image is g(x) = f(x) + k
  • If the function f(x) is translated k units down, then its image is g(x) = f(x) - k
  • The vertex form of the quadratic function is f(x) = a(x - h)² + k, where a is the coefficient of x² and (h, k) is the vertex

∵ k(x) = x²

→ Its graph is a parabola with vertex (0, 0)

∴ The vertex of the prabola which represents it is (0, 0)

∵ The given graph is the graph of p(x)

∵ Its vertex is (0, -6)

∴ h = 0 and k = -6

∵ a = 1

→ Substitute them in the form above

∴ p(x) = 1(x - 0)² + -6

∴ p(x) = x² - 6

→ Substitute x² by k(x)

∴ p(x) = k(x) - 6

∵ p(x) = k(x) + n

→ By comparing the two right sides

∴ n = -6

∴ The value of n is -6

Look at the attached figure for more understanding

The red parabola represents k(x)

The blue parabola represents p(x)
