Type 2 diabetes is a disease which arises as a result of non-functional beta cells of the pancreas which secrete the hormone insulin. The insulin hormone helps to drive excess sugar in the blood into the cells, which are used up by the cells and the remaining excess left is converted to glycogen which is stored in the liver until it is needed for use. If this excess blood sugar is left in the blood stream for too long, it will lead to a condition known as hyperglycemia.
