A culture of bacteria doubles every 2 hours.  If there are 500 bacteria at the beginning, how many bacteria will there be after 24 hours?

Is this sequence arithmetic or geometric?

What is the initial term?

What is the rate of change (common ratio or common difference)?

Solution: There are 500 bacteria to start, doubling every 2 hrs..

<span><span>Such bacterial growth is a geometric sequence with a common ratio of 2.  </span></span>

<span><span>The number of times the bacteria doubles is 12 times during a 24 hour period.
</span></span>

<span><span>The starting number is 500 and the common ratio is 2 hours.   The total number of bacteria is 2,048,000.
</span>
</span>

<span>Determine if the sequence is geometric.  If it is, find the common ratio.</span>

9).  - 1, - 6, - 36, 216, ...... Geometric - Yes, Common Ratio is - 6

9). - 1, - 1,  4,  8,......  Geometric - No

10). 4, 16, 36, 64, ..... Geometric - No

10). - 3, - 15, - 75, - 375,......Geometric - Yes, Common Ratio is 5

11). - 2, - 4, - 8, - 16,...... Geometric - Yes,  Common Ratio is 2

11). 1, 5, 25, - 125,...... Geometric - Yes, Common Ratio is - 5

Hope this helps!!!!!

A triangle has two side lenths of 1 and 16 what is the largest possible whole-number length of the third side?
Afina-wow [57]

Answer:

16

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that:

Length of two sides of the triangle = 1 and 16 ;

The largest possible whole-number length of the third side would be ;

Recall from triangle inequality theorem; the length of any two sides of a triangle is greater than the third side. Therefore. The largest possible whole number value the third side could have is:

Assume the third side is the largest :

Then, the third side must be less than the sum of the other two sides ;

Third side < (16 + 1)

Third side < 17

Therefore, the closest whole number lesser than the sum of the other two sides is (17 - 1) = 16

A $104,000 selling price with $24,000 down at 81⁄2% for 25 years results in a monthly payment of
Katena32 [7]
Okay so first I am taking it that you have to subtract 24k from the 104k which brings it to 80,000.
I am also taking it that the 8.5% is suppose to be in decimal form which makes it .085%
Take the 80,000 and use the monthly payment formula, which is really easy to use.
Monthly payment should be 644.18

Anestetic [448]
First we distribute \frac{1}{5} into n and -\frac{1}{7}.

\frac{1}{5} * n =  \frac{1}{5} n
\frac{1}{5}  *  -\frac{1}{7}  = - \frac{1}{35}

That makes the left side of the equation

\frac{1}{5} n -  \frac{1}{35} =  \frac{1}{6} n

Now we subtract \frac{1}{5}n from \frac{1}{6} n, which makes \frac{1}{30}

Now the equation is

-\frac{1}{35} =  -\frac{1}{30n}

Our goal is to isolate n, so we both sides by 30

30* -\frac{1}{35} = - \frac{1}{30}n * 30

That will make the equation

- \frac{30}{35} = -n

We multiply -1 on both sides of the equation:

\frac{30}{35} = n

Finally we simplify \frac{30}{35}, which makes \frac{6}{7}

So the answer is n =  \frac{6}{7}
