A tortoise and a hare are competing in a 2000-meter race. The arrogant hare decides to let the tortoise have a 550-meter head st

art. When the start gun is fired the hare begins running at a constant speed of 8 meters per second and the tortoise begins crawling at a constant speed of 5 meters per second.a. Write an expression in terms of t that represents the hare's distance from the starting line (in meters)b. Write an expression in terms of t that represents the tortoise's distance from the starting line (in meters).c. Write an expression in terms of t that represents the number of meters the tortoise is ahead of the hare.

Answer:

a) distance covered by hare d1 = 8t

b) distance covered by tortoise d2 = 5t + 550

c) ∆d = 550 - 3t

Step-by-step explanation:

Given;

Speed of hare u = 8m/s

Speed of tortoise v = 5 m/s

Initial distance of tortoise d0 = 550 m

a) using the equation of motion;

distance covered = speed × time + initial distance

d = vt + d0

For hare;

d0 = 0

Substituting the values;

d1 = 8t + 0

d1 = 8t

b)using the equation of motion;

distance covered = speed × time + initial distance

d2 = vt + d0

For tortoise;

d0 = 550m

Substituting the values;

d2 = 5t + 550

d2 = 5t + 550 m

c) the number of meters the tortoise is ahead of the hare.

∆d = distance covered by tortoise - distance covered by hare

∆d = d2 - d1

Substituting the values;

∆d = (5t + 550) - 8t

∆d = 550 - 3t

Can someone please help me with this math question
Anni [7]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

A). From the table of relative frequencies,

Let the relative frequency of women who prefer mineral water = x

Total of relative frequencies of women preferring purified water and mineral water = 0.59

Since, Total of relative frequencies of women who prefer purified water and mineral water = Relative frequency of women preferring purified water + Relative frequency of women preferring mineral water

0.59 = 0.14 + x

x = 0.59 - 0.14

x = 0.45

B). Relative frequency of men  who prefer mineral water = 0.13

Let the frequency of men who prefer mineral water = x

Since, relative frequency = \frac{\text{Frequency}}{\text{Total of frequencies}}

0.13 = \frac{x}{200}

x = 200 × 0.13

x = 26

Therefore, number of shoppers who are men and prefer mineral water = 26

Calculate how much more money does $1000 earn in 8 years compounded daily at 3%,
STatiana [176]

Answer:

To determine the compound interest of a certain investment, the following formula should be used:

X = Initial value (1 + interest rate / number of compositions) ^ years x number of compositions

Thus, in the assumption of an investment of $ 1,000 with interest compounded daily at 3% for 8 years, the formula would be the following:

X = 1,000 x (1 + 3/365) ^ (8x365)

X = 1,271.24

On the other hand, in the case of an investment of $ 1,000 with compound interest every 6 months at 3% for 8 years, the formula would apply as follows:

X = 1,000 x (1 + 3/2) ^ (8x2)

X = 1,268.99
