Chemistry

Answer:

Basis and basic are two different words.

In English, Basis is used as a noun while basic is used as an adjective. Basis term refers as the base or starting point of any discussion.

For example: Bread is a basic ingredient of cake.

                      On the basis of Mendel's hypothesis.

In chemistry, Basis set is used as a set of functions that represent the electronic wave function in the density-functional theory which forms an algebraic equations that can be easily implemented on a computer.

While Basic term is used for substances that can accept a hydrogen ion (H+) from another substance and have pH above 7. such as sodium.

So, It is not important that both the terms, basis and basic change their English meaning if used in chemistry, they both can be used with English meaning in chemistry as well. Bases and basic, both the terms can be used as either English or Chemistry without affecting the meaning.

As long as there is some residual liquid present after equilibrium is reached, the vapor pressure of a liquid at any given tempe
stepan [7]

Answer:

True

Explanation:

Every material in made up of intensive or extensive property. Intensive property of a system does not depend on the system size or the amount of material in the system. But extensive property on the other hand depends on the amount of material present in the system.

Examples of intensive properties include temperature, density, vapor pressure and viscosity.

Assuming that there is some residual liquid left after equilibrium is reached, no matter how much liquid is present, at any given temperature, the vapor pressure will be the same because it is an intensive property.

Calculate the concentration of so42− ions in a 0.010 m aqueous solution of sulfuric acid. express your answer to four decimal pl
dimulka [17.4K]
Answer: 0.00649M

The question is incomplete,

You are told that the first ionization of the sulfuric acid is complete and the second ionization of the sulfuric acid has a constant Ka₂ = 0.012

With that you can solve the question following these steps"

1) First ionization:

H₂SO₄(aq) --> H⁺ (aq) + HSO₄⁻ (aq)

Under the fully ionization assumption the concentration of HSO4- is the same of the acid = 0.01 M

2) Second ionization

HSO₄⁻ (aq) ⇄ H⁺ + SO₄²⁻ with a Ka₂ = 0.012

Do the mass balance:

        HSO₄⁻ (aq)        H⁺        SO₄²⁻

        0.01 M  - x          x            x

Ka₂ = [H⁺] [SO₄²⁻] / [HSO₄⁻]

=> Ka₂ = (x²) / (0.01 - x) = 0.012

3) Solve the equation:

x² = 0.012(0.01 - x) = 0.00012 - 0.012x

x² + 0.012x - 0.0012 = 0

Using the quadratic formula: x = 0.00649

So, the requested concentratioN is [SO₄²⁻] = 0.00649M

How might the biodiversity of a mowed lawn compare to that of huge weedy field?
Dennis_Churaev [7]

Answer: The mowed lawn is the one from where the grasses are removed by using the machines or tools.

Explanation:

The mowed lawn is expected to have low number of species as the grasses may be few or scanty thus can support the population of few species like insects, mice, birds, and small number of grazing animals. On the other hand the weedy field can be hub of insects, reptiles like snakes, small mammals, and large mammals. Large weed field can provide food, and habitat to the large number of species. This will support the increase in biodiversity as compared to the mowed lawn.
