Prompt: Data plays a crucial role in decision-making because it can reveal relationships between different quantities. We can of

ten use linear equations to model these relationships and make predictions about the data. Think about a situation when you needed to analyze data. What types of trends did you find in the data? How did noticing the trends help you make a decision related to the situation?
In industry, data analysis is essential to recognize the challenges a company faces, and to analyze data in practical ways. Information is purely statistics and estimates in and of itself. Analysis of data organizes, interprets, integrates, and translates the data into usable knowledge that incorporates the data meaning. A situation in which I had to analyze data was while I was collecting data for a school project on how sleeping with a phone in the bedroom vs. sleeping without a phone in a bedroom. When I graphed this data as a bar graph, I found that it showed that more people reported better sleeping patterns when they did not have a phone in the bedroom, and the opposite for when they did. A graph makes a connection between quantities more visible in ways that a table and formula do not. This would help the person viewing the graph to come up with an answer far more easily, as the graph allows them to view the data in a way that is simpler to grasp and translate.
