To solve this problem you have to set up a proportion. To form one side of the proportion you use "is over of" meaning what number represented by is, in this case 18, is placed over the number represented by of, 3000. \frac{18}{3000} Since you are finding the percent of something, youre x value is placed above "100" because percent values are most commonly out of 100%. \frac{x}{100}
So now your proportion will look like \frac{18}{3000}\frac{x}{100} To solve the proportion you cross multiply and divide. So you multiply 100 and 18 since they are crossed from each other, then divide 1800 by 3000. The answer is .6. 18 is .6% of 3000.

An algebra book weighs 6 oz less
Mashcka [7]

Answer:

Algebra book weighs 24 oz

Grammar book weighs 15 oz

Step-by-step explanation:

algebra = x and grammar = y

x = 2y-6

5x = 8y

5(2y-6) = 8y

10y - 30 = 8y

2y - 30 = 0

2y = 30

y = 15

x = 2(15)-6

x = 30-6

x = 24

8.33 Suppose Paul receives a 6% raise every year. After four such raises, what is the total percentage increase to the nearest w
Oksana_A [137]

Answer:

Given:

Suppose Paul receives a 6% raise every year.

To find:

After four such raises, the total percentage increase to the nearest whole percent.

The formula used to calculate percentage is: (value/total value)*100%.

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1 of 1

Assume his salary is originally  100 dollars.

Then, in the next year, he would have 106 dollars, and in the next, he would have 112.36 dollars.

The next year he would have 119.1016 dollars and in the final year, he would have 126.247.

As the total increase is,

((126.247 -100)/100) *100

= 26.247%

the answer is 26%.
