I got -3.........................

-7 - 7p = 3p + 23

Move the -7p over to the right....by adding
-7 = 10p +23
Move the 23 over to the left by subtracting
-30 = 10p
divide by 10
p = -3

Hey there!

In order to solve this problem, you'll want to combine like terms. You can do this by cancelling out terms in your equation and combining them with the similar terms (for example, numbers with no unknown term can be combined, numbers with the same unknown term can be combined, etc.)

To cancel out terms, you will add or subtract (and eventually multiply or divide) to get the term on one side to zero. You will then complete what you just did to cancel out the term on the other side. See below:

–7 – 7p = 3p + 23
+ 7                  + 7

–7p = 3p + 30
+7p  +7p

10p + 30

10p + 30 will be your simplified equation. There's no wrong way to combine like terms, just be careful to double check whether you should add or subtract.

After that, all you need to do is solve for the term p. After you get rid of all of the terms on one side, that side will be equal to zero. So, you just need to find the number that will make your equation equal zero.

10p + 30 = 0
       –30    –30

10p/10 = –30/10

p = –3

Hope this helped you out! :-)

In a game, the probability of winning is 1 out of 5. How many times could Lisa expect to win if she plays the game 85 times?
Murrr4er [49]

Answer:

17 wins

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

P(winning) = 1/5

Number of games = 85

The number of winnings could simply be calculated as the product of the probability and number of games played.

Expected number of winning : P(winning) * number of games

Expected number of winning = 1/5 * 85 = 17 wins
