Lev Vygotsky gave a socio-cultural theory of cognitive development. According to this theory, socialization or social interaction of individual with people who are more knowledgeable than them plays a significant role in their cognitive development.
He described scaffolding as the support given to child by more knowledgeable others ( like parents or teachers). This means that scaffolding allowed communication between the teacher and the learner.
