An 11-inch string is cut into 3 equal pieces. Which expression shows the length of each piece?
slega [8]
Sense this string would only be 11 (in), and we are cutting it into 3 pieces, this would show us that we would then be dividing the 11 (in) string into 3 pieces. The expression would be below.

\boxed{11\div3}

What are the dimensions of the container holding a 1" x 1" x 1" cube
Allushta [10]
Each dimension has to be 1" or bigger, otherwise the cube won't fit. _________ WAIT ! The container doesn't have to be rectangular, and that opens up a lot more possibilities. The smallest possible rectangular container is a little tiny cardboard cube whose dimensions are all 1", just like the contents. But you could also keep it in a container shaped like a pyramid, a cylinder, an egg, etc. If the container is a sphere, then its radius has to be at least 0.866 inch.

What does it mean for the ratio of surface area to volume to be small or large? Which ratios are better economically?
ValentinkaMS [17]
The goal is to get the volume as large as possible while the surface area is made as small as possible. Why? Because the volume is the amount of stuff you can hold and the surface area is the amount of material to make the container.

Consider an example of making a cup. The inside portion is the amount the cup can hold. The more liquid, the better. The cup makers want to use as little material as possible so that they reduce costs. If the cup makers produce a cup that has volume of 10 cubic inches and uses 10 square inches of material, then the surface area to volume ratio is 10:10 which reduces to 1:1. A more efficient cup is made if that same volume (10 cubic inches) can be made for less material say 5 square inches to make the ratio now 5:10 which reduces to 1:2.

So in summary, reducing the surface area to volume ratio will make more sense economically as the company makes more money while reducing costs (therefore increasing overall profit)

A manufacturer of potato chips would like to know whether its bag filling machine works correctly at the 410 gram setting. It is
frozen [14]

Answer:

The decision rule for rejecting the null hypothesis is t < -1.721

Step-by-step explanation:

A manufacturer of potato chips would like to know whether its bag filling machine works correctly at the 410 gram setting. It is believed that the machine is underfilling the bags.

At the null hypothesis, we test if the mean weight of the bag is the desired value of 410, that is:

H_0: \mu = 410

At the alternate hypothesis, we test if the bag is underfilled, that is, the mean weight is below the desired value, so:

H_0: \mu < 410

Type of test:

As we test if the mean is less than a value, we have a left-tailed test.

We have the standard deviation for the sample, which means that the t-distribution is used.

We have 22 - 1 = 21 degrees of freedom, with a level of significance of 0.05.

Using a calculator, the critical value is t_c = -1.721

Determine the decision rule for rejecting the null hypothesis.

We reject the null hypothesis if the test statistic is less than the critical value, so the decision rule for rejecting the null hypothesis is t < -1.721
