\frac{3}{8} =  \frac{9}{24}

\frac{1}{6} = \frac{4}{24}

\frac{9}{24} +  \frac{4}{24} =  \frac{13}{24}

\frac{24}{24} -  \frac{13}{24} =  \frac{11}{24}

This is very simple if you know the process.

First of all, you must convert 3/8 and 1/6 into similar denominators. You can do this by doing 3x6 and 8x6 for the first fraction and 1x8 and 6x8 for the second fraction.

Once you have done this, you get 18/48 on clothes and 8/48 on entertainment.

18/48 + 8/48 = 26/48 and so 48 - 26 = 22 so 22/48 was spent on other items.
22/48 simplified is equal to 11/24 and since that cannot be simplified anymore, your answer is 11/24 of her allowance was spent on other items.

 I hope that helps! :D

What is the formula for 'percent of change'?
Marina CMI [18]
First: work out the difference (increase) between the two numbers you are comparing. Then: divide the increase by the original number and multiply the answer by 100. % increase = Increase ÷ Original Number × 100. If your answer is a negative number, then this is a percentage decrease. ( copy and paste from skillsyouneed.com )

Which formula can be used to find the nth term of a geometric sequence where the fifth term is 1/16 and the common ratio is 1/4
stepladder [879]
A₅ = 1/16  and r= 1/4

Let see how to build up this formula that is going to give that term of rank n

1st term =a₁ = To be calculated

1st a₁   = a₁  x  r°
2nd a₂  = a₁  x  r¹
3rd a₃  =  a₁  x  r²
4th a₄   = a₁  x  r³
5th a₅   = a₁  x  r⁴
.......................
.......................
nth : a(n) = a₁  x r⁽ⁿ-¹)
Note when that the subscript of a is the same as the exponent mines 1

We know the ratio r =1/4 & the fifth term, a₅ =1/16 (given). Now let's apply the formula to calculate the unknown a₁.

a(n) = a₁  x r⁽ⁿ-¹) ==>a₅ = a₁ x (1/4)⁽⁵⁺¹⁾ ===> 1/16 = a₁ x (1/4)⁴
1/167 = a₁ (1/256) ==> a₁ =16 & the formula becomes
a₅ = 16(1/4)⁴

3. 2x^3 - 9x^2 + 7x + 6

4. x = -6, -8, -15

5. 2x^3+10x^2+12x

Factor out the common factor:

2x (x^2+5x+6 )

Factor what's left in parentheses:

2x (x + 2) (x + 3)

6. x = 0, 4, -9
