Why are formula equations using symbols and numbers used more commonly than word equations?

Chemistry

Answer:

Explanation:

Formula equations are more descriptive and shows the ratio of atoms combining to give products more explicitly.

This makes chemical calculations more easier and stoichoimetric relationships can better be drawn.

Word equations are limited. They can even be very cumbersome a times to decipher.

Chemical formulas in equations captures the essence of a reaction much more better.

We know;

  • number of moles of species
  • nature of molecules and compounds reacting
  • state of matter
  • reaction medium
  • heat changes accompanying a reaction

                from formula equations.

All of these details might become obscured in word equations and difficult to resolve.

In looking at the bolded atoms in the answer choices, which pair consists of molecules having the same geometry? hints in lookin
Rzqust [24]
Correct Answer: CH2CCI2 and CH2CH2.

Reason:
Structure of compound depends on the hybridization of central atom. In both of the above molecules (i.e. CH2CCL2 and CH2CH2). Central atom i.e. carbon is sp^2 hybridized.  Thus 3 hybridized orbitals of 'C' is involved in sigma bonding. Further, these orbitals are placed spatially at an angle of 120^{0}. The un-hybridized 2pz orbital of 'C' is involved in pi-bonding. Due to this, both of the above molecules possess a triangular planner geometry.
