An 8.31-m, 267-N uniform ladder rests against a smooth (frictionless) wall. The coefficient of static friction between the ladde

r and the ground is 0.582, and the ladder makes a 52.6? angle with the ground. A 928 N person is standing on the ladder a distance d from the bottom end of the ladder.
(a) Draw a free-body diagram of the ladder. (Turn in part (a) on the sheet provided in your packet.)
(b) How far up the ladder (distance d) can the person climb before the ladder begins to slip? Hint: Among other things, you may want to look at the sum of the torques about the point where the ladder touches the wall. Be careful with angles! ___________ m ( ± 0.02 m)

Answer:

2.88m

Explanation:

Length of the ladder = 8.31m

weight of ladder = 267N

coefficient of static friction (u) = 0.582

Angle(α) = 52.6°

Weight of person = 928N

Normal reaction on the ladder = weight of ladder + weight of person

= 267 + 928

= 1195N

Friction force(F) = uR

= 0.582*1195

= 695.49N

Torque due to friction = F(L/2)sin52.6°

= 695.49(8.31/2)sin52.6

= 2295.67N

Torque due to person = weight of person *sCos 52.6

=928*sCos52.6

=s* 563.64N

Torque due to ladder = weight of ladder * (L/2)Cos52.6

= 267*(8.31/2)Cos 52.6

= 673.81N

Torque(person) + Torque (ladder) = Torque (friction)

2295.67 = s*563.64 + 673.81

2295.67 - 673.81 = s*563.64

1621.86 = s*563.64

s = 1621.86/563.64

s = 2.8774

s = 2.88m

The person is at 2.88m from the end of the ladder

Two drums of the same size and same height are taken.
Gelneren [198K]

Answer:

i) The pressure acting on the base of <em>B</em> will be half the pressure acting on the base of <em>A</em>

ii) The pressure acting on the base of <em>B</em> will be the same as the pressure acting on the base of <em>A</em>

iii) The pressure on the base of drum <em>A</em> will be slightly less than the pressure on the base of drum <em>B</em>

Explanation:

The pressure acting on the base of the drum, P = h·ρ·g

Where;

h = The level of the liquid in the drum

h_{max} = The height of the drums

ρ = The density of the liquid in the drum

g = The acceleration due to gravity ≈ 9.81 m/s²

i) If <em>A</em> is completely filled, we have h_A = h_{max}

Therefore, P_A = h_{max}×\rho_{liquid}×g

If <em>B</em> is half filled, we have, h_B =  (1/2)·h_{max}

P_B = (1/2) × h_{max}×\rho_{liquid}×g

Therefore, P_B = (1/2) × P_A

The pressure acting on the base of <em>B</em> will be half the pressure acting on the base of <em>A</em>

ii) If both <em>A</em> and <em>B</em> are each filled with water (the same liquid), then the pressure on their bases will be P_A = h_{max}×\rho_{water}×g = P_B, the same, given that the acceleration due to gravity, <em>g</em>, is constant and the same in Nepal and India

iii) If <em>A</em> is filled with water, and <em>B</em> is filled with salty water, we have that, the density of salty water is slightly higher than water, therefore, we get;

P_A = h_{max}×\rho_{water}×g <  P_B =

The pressure on the base of drum <em>A</em> will be less than the pressure on the base of drum <em>B.</em>

marusya05 [52]

The weaknesses of the America government under the articals of confederation in which the Philadelphia mutiny highlighted include:

  • Inability to regulate commerce.
  • Inability to form a military.

<h3>What is a Mutiny?</h3>

This is a rebellious act among group of people in order to oppose a certain authority or government.

A 60cm long string of an ordinary guitar is tuned to produce the note a4 (frequency 440hz) when vibrating in its fundamental mod
pishuonlain [190]

Answer:

0.78 m

Explanation:

The relationship between wavelength and frequency of a wave is given by

v=f \lambda

where

v is the speed of the wave

f is the frequency

\lambda is the wavelength

For the sound wave in this problem, we have

f=440 Hz is the frequency

v = 344 m/s is the speed of sound in air

Substituting into the equation and re-arranging it, we find the wavelength:

\lambda=\frac{v}{f}=\frac{344 m/s}{440 Hz}=0.78 m

Objects P and Q are placed in a bowl of water. P floats and Q sinks. Which one or more of the following can be deduced from this
Lady bird [3.3K]

The correct option that can be deduced for both Object P and Q is Option b) I and II only

To solve this question correctly, we need to understand the concept of density and it relation to mass and volume.

<h3>What is Density?</h3>

Density is a physical property of an object and can be expressed by using the relation:

\mathbf{Density = \dfrac{mass}{volume}}

From the given parameters, we are being told that:

  • P → floats
  • Q → sinks

This implies that Q has a greater density that P. Since Q has a greater density than P, Q will be heavier since it will have greater mass.

However, Q will not be denser than water because if that happens, P will be have a greater density which is untrue in this scenario.

Therefore, we can conclude that:

  • 1. Q is heavier than P
  • II. 1cm³ of Q has a greater mass than 1cm³ of P
