The most succesful element that creates suspense in the opening paragraph of The War of Worlds is the third person all knowing narrator. The story grabs your attention from the beggining by giving us a bird eye view of everything that has been going on prior to the beggining of the action. The use of comparison also adds a nice element of suspense. The author tells us the vast difference in intellect and resources between the invaders and human by using a common comparison, like that of a human watching something through a microscope, but without giving us any datail, leaving us wanting more. He also goes on to elaborate on how trivial our little everyday lives are compared to what he knows is coming soon. He also builds up anticipation by telling us that this isn't a spur of the moment decision, we've been watched for a long time, plans have been hatching for a while, the invasion is inevitable, and we, along with the protagonists, have no idea of what's coming, and we can't wait to find out.

What is two effects of corruption on individuals? And provide one example to support each.
guapka [62]

Answer:

Corruption hurts everyone.

The impact of corruption goes beyond the corrupt individuals, the innocent colleagues who are implicated, or the reputation of the organisations they work for. Ultimately, Victorians are the ones who lose out.

Corruption erodes the trust we have in the public sector to act in our best interests. It also wastes our taxes or rates that have been earmarked for important community projects – meaning we have to put up with poor quality services or infrastructure, or we miss out altogether.

Explanation:

financial loss

damage to employee morale

damage to organisation's reputation

organisational focus and resources diverted away from delivering core business and services to the community

increased scrutiny, oversight and regulation.

Answer:

The third option. It address both sides of an issue.

Explanation:

While an argument can be reasoning based or emotional based, it's important to address both sides with a counterclaim after your claim. This is because you want the audience to understand that you understand both sides of the argument.

However, a good argument can also include emotion and reasoning, a good argument can include ethos, logos, and pathos.

Ethos: Relates to ethics

Logos: Relates to logic
