Contact precautions are transmission-based precautions which are additional precaution other that standard precautions. These contact precautions are taken in patient's care when the patient is having a serious disease which can be transferred easily by contact because the disease is highly contagious.

Therefore contact precaution is used to prevent the transmission of disease and include the placing of client in a room that is isolated and have a limited access, using gloves during the contact with patient's belongings or with patient, avoiding equipment sharing, and wearing multiple layers of protective clots.
