Tania lived in Columbia and Dominican Republic for a total period of 14 months in order to learn Spanish. She learned an average

of 130 new words per month when she lived in Columbia, and an average of 150 new words per month when she lived in the Dominican Republic. In total, she learned 1,920 new words. Select TWO equations that could be used to model the situation.
A
130c + 150d = 1400

B
c + d = 14

C
130c + 150d = 1920

D

Answer:

 • B c + d = 14
 • C 130c + 150d = 1920

Step-by-step explanation:

If we define the variables c and d to represent the number of months spent in Columbia and Dominican Republic, respectively, then we can write equations for the total number of months and the total number of words:

 c + d = 14 . . . . . . . . . . . . total number of months

 130c +150d = 1920 . . . . total number of words

_____

Comment on the problem

Before you can write equations, you need to define the variables. The problem statement does not do that, so just about any of the equations could be argued to be correct for some definition of the variables.

zvonat [6]

Answer:

4 hours of rental

Step-by-step explanation:

y1 = 20 + 13.5x

y2 = 6 + 17x

20 + 13.5x = 6 + 17x

20 - 6 = 17x - 13.5x

14 = 3.5x

x = 4

Costs y1 and y2 are equal on renting for 4 hours

Can someone please help??
Vsevolod [243]

Answer:

let the number of cows = x

let the number of chickens = y

since there are 42 heads:

x + y = 42

and since a cow has 4 legs, and a chicken has 2

4x + 2y = 144

from first equation:

x + y = 42

x = 42 - y (now, we will substitute this in the second equation)

4(42 - y) + 2y = 144

168 - 4y + 2y = 144

2y = 168 - 144

2y = 24

y = 12

now, we know the number of chickens. we will replace y with 12 in the first equation since it is more simpler

x + 12 = 42

x = 30

So, there are 30 cows and 12 chickens
